How to Tie a Friendship Knot for the Uniform Neckerchief
The material on this page originally comes from Guiding UK [http://guidinguk.freeservers.com/necker.html]. Please visit this wonderful website and check out other great offerings.
Step One
Roll the long ends of the fabric first to give neat ends to tie (looks particularly effective with a bordered neckerchief).
Step Two
Cross one end over the other, then
fold it back up on itself.
Step Three
Bring the second end over the folded (first)
end and take it around behind.
Step Four
Bring end one down and over end two, then
take end two around and over end one and
through the loop formed by end one.
Step Five
Adjust the knot until the ends are even
and the knot flat and square; tighten
gently until it is the size you want.
Traditionally, this knot should be tied in your neckerchief by a friend, and you should never untie the knot in case undoing it "undoes" the friendship.
