guitar comping: chords and walking bass
if the rhythm section doesn't show up at the gig: with a single guitar you can make up for it.
tuck andress and the late joe pass are masters of this style. the walking bass notes must be played with separation (play a little rest between each) even if the next note is the same.
try to make the bass line and the chords sound like two different instruments. practice the bass line alone at first, until it sounds good to you.
and: i myself started this style only recently, so please do not bash me if you think my arrangement too simple ;-)
