empty

i watch you silently
month by month
as your belly swells
i place my hand on mine -
smooth
flat
empty

i see your two hands
filled with those of small children
that you bore
and i am more aware of my own
strong
warm
and empty

i watch your lover
eyes overcome with awe
as his child grows within you
and i look upon my love
committed
wanting
barren

i fail to understand
your three to my none
when my desire is more than your need
and i feel
cheated
defeated
and empty
