shadows

i jump
from shadow 
to shadow
you know
kinda like how
you played shadow tag
when you were a kid
but you did it
for fun
so much darker
light only sneaking thru
this time
when you�re tagged
you�re more than
"it"
and there�s no obligation
to pull someone
else in
walk in these shadows
you know too well
try not to trip
on cement hungry cracks
(like anyone else maintains
the shadows)
mommy and daddy aren�t here
to clean and bandage
your wounded self
you�re alone, baby
put up your shields
and stick our your fists
fight baby fight
somebody�s gotta get out alive
might as well be you
the shadows don�t have to eat you
alive
maybe there�s still escape time
jump
shadow puddles
make a splash
wet clothes will
make you forget
your wet cheeks
shadow to shadow
puddle to puddle
crying
keep on walking
looking for light streaks
dry out the clothes
try to warm your cheeks
maybe daylight will come
if the sun�ll move
watch the shadows move
