Lesson 1: Types of Guitars

This section gives you an insight into the commonly available types of Guitars. If you already have a Guitar, you may want to skip to the next section. The music given in these chapters can be played on almost any type of Guitar.

Acoustic Guitars:

While most bands and Rock groups are made of Electric Guitars, acoustic guitars make more sense. Ever seen someone hooking up to a speaker and an amplifier, sitting on the seashore? The melodious nature of the un-aided acoustic guitar has and will continue to accompany songs for a lot of years, and be the favorite choice for musicians.

Usually consist of Six strings
The Strings are made of Steel, and can hurt your fingers. However I suggest this one for beginners … its okay to play with steel strings, you get better with practice, and your fingers get tougher. But just remember to take it a little each day.

Excellent Crisp Tone. Pulls are clearer than Classical Guitars.

Classical Guitars:

The nylon string Classical guitar is similar to the Acoustic guitar, with a hollow body and a sound hole. The stings are made of nylon.
The sound can be described as a little heavier than that produced in an acoustic guitar. For anyone serious about playing classical music (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and so on) the Classical guitar is ideal.

Usually consist of Six strings
The Strings are usually made of Nylon, and don't put too much strain on your fingertips….Suitable for Beginners.

Produce a good tone

Electric Guitars:

These Dazzling things are worth their money. They come in all shapes, with Tone and Volume adjustments.

The electric guitar is used with an amplifier. Sound is reproduced through the loudspeaker.
You get complete control of the sound, and you can alter it in any way by varying a couple of switches, without changing your playing style. But be careful, even tiny errors are amplified, and consequences are big!!

Bottom Line: These are worth buying, once you've reached the Intermediate level.

Bass Guitars:

These Guitars are used specifically for producing the Lower frequency sounds. They come in 4-Stringed, 5-Stringed and 6-Stringed Flavors. Bass Music can actually be classified into one separate field of Guitar Music, there's that much to it!!

Electrical Acoustic Guitars:

These are basically acoustic guitars which come with Microphones attached, the function of which is to take the tone produced to an outlet chord and into the Speakers. The amplification and the sound produced might not be as loud as that of an Electric Guitar, however you don't have controls to vary the tone and other characteristics of the Sound.
