Instructions to Contributors

Welcome to our democratic web site! All GPers are welcome to edit this site and add links to their own pages, stored either on gerbang.untan.ac.id, or on another server (preferred). Please respect the following rules:

1. Ask Cam for the password to the untan account (userid is palung), and be careful who you pass it on to. DO NOT change the password, but let Cam know if it needs to be changed, and then he will distribute it.
2. Download your pages into the public_html folder of the palung account on gerbang.untan.ac.id. (using ftp, MS-FTP, Fetch, etc.). Check carefully that there are no existing files named the same as your new page - the old ones will be over-written. Please use sensible, explanatory names, with the .html suffix. If you have a lot of files, you can make a subdirectory under public_html - use the correct relative HREF when adding your file to the pre-existing lists. Cam will maintain the faster mirror site.
3. Keep your pages small and quick to download, i.e. no java bells and whistles, and few images. Scan your images at 72 dpi or less. Please keep your pages lynx-friendly!
4. Do not edit the main index.html page; check with Cam if you want to add a new category. Do add table contents to the research list in research.html. Add your name in alphabetical order. Include an anchor to your web-site. Do add your contact information to the Contacts page, and add an anchor to your email address.
5. While we are building the site, please do not upload a new level-2 page (Management, Visiting, etc. - refered to in the index, not yet created) without checking with Cam - we may already have the page ready.
6. Edit the source code of pre-existing pages with a text-editor (e.g. BBEdeit, SimpleText, Notepad...), not with a WYSIWYG http app (e.g. Composer, FrontPage...), which may add junk code. For your our own pages, obviously use what you want. Note that it is really very easy to edit HTML - just follow the other examples on the same page.
7. Preserve the color scheme as much as possible (BODY TEXT="#FFFFFF" BGCOLOR="#006600" LINK="#66FF99" VLINK="#FFCC99" ALINK="#FF6666"). If you hate it, let Cam know soon, and we can all use something different before there are too many pages!
8. Use Indonesian as much as possible. We intend this to be a bilingual web site.
9. Feel free to check and answer the general questions directed to the site, by telnetting into the account and using pine. Do not use the palung account for anything else.
10. Respect the community of site users, and don't fiddle if you are unsure about anything - the potential to seriously screw up the site is there! Thanks.
