3.9 Evaluate
Your Personal Validity
" Know then thyself, presume not God to scan,
The proper study of Mankind is Man." ....Alexander Pope
The purpose of this page is
primarily to further expand on the concept of
Personal Validity and how it
can apply usefully to oneself in the pursuit of
self analysis , self
synthesis or self expansion. The process described on this
page of evaluating oneself
cannot be taken too literally since this will always
be personal and time
dependent , state of mind dependent judgement ,
and the process here is only
one general direction, but the point here is
to assess how closely you
know and apply yourself.
" Let no voice but
your own speak to you from the depths". ....Marcus Garvey
Whether any
path is the right one for oneself or not, will ultimately
depend on how that path
is attuned with the unique attributes of the
developed and
integrated construct of one's belief's, concepts
and valued experiences.
" Above all
these metaprograms to be experimented upon is one metaprogram
of value is to subject his overall policy to the intent to explore, to observe,
to
analyze. Hence there is an important additional basic metaprogram :
analyze
self to understand one 's thinking and true motives more thoroughly. This is the
conscious motivational strategy. At times this
metaprogram dominates the
scene, at times others do. The resolve exists, however, to generate a net effect
with this instruction uppermost in the computer hierarchy".......John C Lilly
3.9.1 The process of Self
Evaluation
" It is not knowledge,
but the act of learning, not possession but the act of
getting there, which grants the greatest enjoyment"....Carl Friedrich Gauss
The usefulness of this
evaluation lies essentially in setting up a conscious feedback
mechanism which can enhance
the vital process of continuing self examination.
Generally, In order to rate
your Personal Validity , you should be able
to judge how effectively you
are able to handle your day to day living,
your interactions with the
world around you , your ability to achieve
results commensurate with
your goals , your efficiency in managing
your time and resources and
your physical /non-physical well being.
To enhance one's Personal
Validity , the most valuable tool is this
conscious feedback mechanism
or evaluation that allows one to get
in touch with the mechanisms
or belief structures of oneself.
It is only when one realises what core beliefs one
is operating from
can one become aware of
the validity of these beliefs for oneself.
While there are several
known techniques, programs and procedures for this purpose
of self
analysis, however the simplest method can be self-questioning,
self-interacting
dialogue (testing of
opposing beliefs in their respective context domains), self-instruction
(commanding oneself to do or
not do) and self-observation ( a command to observe the
sub-consciously o r
spontaneously operating beliefs and programs during and after an
event, particularly a
non-trivial interactive event), all of which basically mean one thing :
the initiation and
development of a conscious feedback and command process for the
critical examination,
evaluation and integration of the control mechanisms of one's
mind so as to eventually set
up two or more selves ( context controls) within
oneself that interact with
each other, but only after a minimal
unification of control
has been achieved.
It is the development
of this ability to create and shift between different
contexts that leads to
far reaching possibilities for exploration into the
limits of one's mind
and its capabilities.
3.9.2 Evaluate Your Personal
Validity
" To see ourselves as
others see us is a most salutary gift. Hardly less important
is the capacity to see
others as they see themselves"...........Aldous Huxley
As an example , the
following questions one may ask oneself in order
to evaluate the state of
one's Personal Validity :
1. First of all the
past : When you look
back at your past life , what %
of your past life would you
want to relive or change? If you feel that
nothing in your past should
have been different , you are indeed a
unique being . And are you
now better off than in the recent past ? i.e.
Do you feel that you are
progressing in terms of personal growth ?
2.The Freedom
Question : At
present to what extent, in your judgement
do situations or
circumstances control your life? Do you feel that you are
in charge of your life and
time or is it other people , or circumstances that
seem to be in charge ? Do
you feel you have freedom to choose or change
the direction and
circumstances of your life ?
3. Requisition your
Resources: Do you
believe in setting goals for
yourself even though they
may be abstract goals which can't be quantified ?
In other words do you feel
that there is something you have to accomplish?
If you do not believe in
having goals ( that is, you feel you have nothing
to accomplish ), and are
dissatisfied with the way your life is going ,you
need to shake yourself up
(unless of course you have abandoned yourself
or are deriving some kind of
pay off in being dissatisfied)
4. Achievement and
Goals : What percent
of goals in your life so far have
you been able to achieve ?
Or how many things that you had set out to
accomplish have seen
completion ?
"I began to
have an idea of my life, not as the slow shaping of achievement
to fit my preconceived purposes, but as the gradual discovery and growth
of a purpose which I did not know".......Joanna Field
5. The Dynamism of
Goals : What percent
of achieved or unachieved goals
have undergone modification
, changes , transformation or replacement ?
If you have not accomplished
any significant goals and yet those goals
are the unchanged desired goals , you have a battle to win.
If you have not accomplished
any significant goals because as you reach
towards your goals you find
newer goals more worthy of accomplishment,
only you know what you are
up to .
6. Fulfillment
in The Process : Does
the process of working towards your
goals provide
fulfillment or enrichment of experience ? If it does , you are
right on track -
your purpose is almost accomplished.
"The reward
of a thing well done is to have done it"......R. W. Emerson
7. Not Resting
upon your Laurels : Do
you attach greater value and im-
portance to what
you intend to accomplish compared to whatever you have
already
accomplished ? If so , you still have a lot of life in you for you do
not believe in
resting upon your laurels.
" The significance of
a man is not in what he attains but rather in what
he longs to attain".....Kahlil Gibran
8. Awareness of
the highest and instantaneous operating value :
Are you aware of what
values you hold uppermost ?
And whether these have ever
undergone critical examination ?
Even more significant is
the awareness of instantaneous evaluations in unusual
conditions.
( Since whatever we choose
to do follows the path of that which we have the highest
instantaneous value for,
it becomes critical for us to be aware of what is
being
valued most of all,
although this will be apparent only after the instant. This means
that a critical command
program must be consciously developed that at the very
least records consciously,
valuations made at critical and even trivial situations.
The whole purpose of all
this is to bring all control programs, from first the
sub-conscious, and then
from the supra-conscious, into the conscious.)
Without the development of
the awareness of the internal evaluation
processes, and their
triggers, self - analysis cannot yield results.
" Life can
only be understood backwards, but it must be lived
forwards.".......Soren
Aabye Kierkegaard
And now the
questions move on from the core Self to the next most important aspect : the
interactive
environment of the Self. While up to now the entire emphasis was upon one's
own core nature, the
emphasis now is upon the interactive relationship between one's
given or developed
nature, and the rest of Nature :
