Patriot, The (3 1/2 stars)

Too much manipulation of history to be considered as a serious war film. Mel Gibson is upstaged by younger Aussie actor Heath Ledger. It's not that bad, but it is too cartoonish and unrealistic to be great. Good battle scenes though. And plenty of gratuitous violence to satisfy the blood-thirsty.
