my theory c - solar phallos (good and bad) spirit u - lower phallos (good and bad) anima soul (traditional Jungian theory places chthonic phallos in shadow, but chthonic phallos is antithesis of solar phallos, not just shadow) A/ gay: projection of aggressive m (shadow) onto other retention of f (anima) within (fused or integrated) -> reincorporation of shadow for wholeness (+ deconstructing of fused anima for reintegration) B/ straight:projection of f onto other retention of aggressive m stereotype within -> reincorporation of anima for wholeness archetpyes (father/ son, mother-lover, hermaphrodite) all played out in m-m relations 2 sides of gay sensibility: 1/ identification of internalized anima with Davis, Hepburn etc, ie extra strong (m) women -> catharsis: "I have strong f (anima) within" -> "I can satisfy strong m (shadow) outside" -> "I can be whole" (even if illusion) -because anima within, gay can even use drag to have union with m as prostitute. But this is distorted, undifferentiated anima -passive women empty for gays (u represent weak anima for gay) 2/ projection of shadow (onto androgynous boy, say) -> catharsis: "I have strong m energy" -> "I can project it onto (m) other outside" -> "I can be whole" -because f internalized, no need for f outside (though m energy demands active roleas well as passive, hence 2/ above) -healthy gay relation can bring 1/ 2/ together, ie heal wounds: reincorp shadow (dissolve social/ family repressive rules against m aggressivity and passion), differentiate anima from mother identification (overcome wound of father rejection, clinging mother) -> stop u projecting shadow in compulsive sm way, repeating childhood traumas A/ and B/ -> Androgyne for A/ union with m sans projections for completion for B/ union with f (or other m) sans projections for completion new mythology: Eros as both m/f, m/f as more equal and sharing archetypal energies in less stereotyped ways -> androgyny relations: a/ gay-women - (positive) support animus development in women. No demands for sexual dominance -> mutual liberation from inferior f stereotypes. -(negative) wallow in inferior stereotypes in patriarchy b/ gay-straight m - (positive) str m enjoys feeling of being idolized by another m, nonthreatening intimacy -> mutual liberation from patriarchal m stereotypes. -(negative) arouse fear of u homos desires persona/ u relation: yellow-green the inner soul axis (abstract) vs red-blue culture-specific outer persona axis (concrete). Persona culturally determined (-> shadow as traits unacceptable to culture) g -> y ontogenic development - man adjusts through life to outer persona ('false self'), pulled to b. For gay, fused/ integrated f pulls him to r. Healing means becoming c and integrating f, making the necessary persona compromises (Freud's tolerable unhappiness?)
