Since Australia was a commonwealth of Great Britian, she mostly used British aircraft. She also used imported American aircraft. But, in the dark days of 1942, when the United States was still realing from Pearl Harbor and the British were being attacked in the Indian Ocean, Australian airmen had to rely on imports brought in before the war, and a couple of squadrons of F2A Buffalo that came from Burma and Singapore.Commonwealth Aircraft Company, with the knowledge that their country was at stake, built the CA-12 Boomerang. This aircraft was planned, constructed, and tested within 90 days of the order. These aircraft, though not equal to the Zero , was bravely flown and soon proved it's worth by shooting down many Japanese aircraft. After the U.S. was able to win back the air, the Boomerang was then used as bomber escort, which it performed admiraliby.Australia proved to the world that she was a capible of producing a great fighter out of nothing. She also proved that Australia was not just a Commonwealth of the British Empire and that she could fight bravely to defend herself. To me, personally, the Boomerang is one of my favorite aircraft because of it's power and it's beauty. Below are the specifications to the Boomerang.I was even lucky enough to find a picture worth displaying.
