Chapter 1:
"Hakuchi no Senshi"
"No... NO! You’ve got that all wrong, Kaka-kun!" Trunks said, crossing his arms, and continued. "You’ve got to put more of your Ki behind the attack, lest it fail. I’m not teaching you diversionary techniques, here. Perhaps you’d better take this a bit more seriously." Like all people, the twenty-six year old warrior’s students had both good days and bad. For the sixteen-year old Gouoku Kakakisei, it was obviously one of the latter. Kaka was an impressive figure, at just over six feet tall, and strongly muscled frame, his flame-red hair and goatee didn’t quite offset the fact that his skin was a bluish-gray, a trait .
"Hai, Trunks-sensei," was the boy’s sullen response.
"Screwed up again, huh?"
"Shaddup, Nekonineko." Kaka said, glaring at a second boy.
Typical. Trunks thought, glancing over at Kaka’s twin brother. He was physically identical to Kaka, save his hair was longer, blonde, and he was clean-shaven. Trunks’s eyes narrowed dangerously. With atypical malice in both his voice and posture, Trunks amended his earlier berating of Kaka. "Your performance today has been sorely lacking as well, Neko-kun. I honestly expected better of you two. Remember, you did seek _me_ out, not the other way around. If you can’t take my training seriously, perhaps it’s time for you to return home."
The pair looked at each other, worry written on their faces. They’d learned quite a bit from Trunks, but they both knew it wasn’t enough. They couldn’t return to their homeworld until they were strong enough to defeat the evil alien emperor who’d seized control of their planet in little more than three hours. In other words, yes they were strong, but they had a very long way yet to go.
"Sumimasen, sensei." Was their joint response. Trunks’s other students watched, slightly bored at the proceedings. Trunks only had to speak to the pair about twice a day to get them on track, and it was starting to get on all of their nerves, including those of Gai Setsuna, the ever-cheerful Yardratto whom Trunks had accepted as a student out of respect for his friend, Son Gokou, though none of the students could place any face to that name. Trunks glanced at all of his students, they had stopped attempting the moves he’d been teaching them to watch the exchange.
Of Trunks’s students, only one was human, a young man by the name of Eimin Gyokusai. His rather unpleasant name was an offshoot of the era in which he’d been born, the era of the Jinzouningen, which Trunks had brought to an end a little over six years earlier. Gyoukusai was a slim, emaciated man who, dispite Trunks’s urgings, never seemed to eat quite enough. He actually resembled Jinzouningen Juunana Gou, in a way, though Gyou-kun would look tiny if the two had been placed side by side.
Trunks’s last student was enigmatic, she’d shown up one day, and spoken five little words, no greeting, no explanations, just an "I’m here to be trained." An'ya Ryuu, an Ebony-skinned, neon green-hared woman of indiscernible age (if Trunks were forced to guess, he’d say she was between sixteen and thirty years old), was probably Trunks’s strongest student, though she was still nowhere near Trunks’s level. Very beautiful, she spoke little more than was absolutely necessary to the point of sounding cryptic, and her biting sarcasm had turned away both Kaka and Neko’s advances within a matter of days. She was the only one really focused on training, though her reasons for doing so were still unclear.
"Maybe it’s time for some drastic measures..." Trunks said, brushing a stray lock of hair out of his eyes. "Kaka, Neko, Gyou, Suna, An’ya, I think it’s about time you started your survival training."
This announcement was accompanied by groans from all but one of his students, the ever silent An’ya flashing Trunks a wicked glare before deciding that he really _was_ serious.
"It worked wonders for Son Gohan, _my_ mentor, though I must admit you’re stronger than he was when he began that training. I’ve been contemplating this for quite a while. I’ll take you out to random points around the globe, and you’ll need to find your way back _here_. The faster you do it, the faster you can resume training."
"This is going to be easy." Neko said, grinning.
"Oh, did I forget to mention something? I must’ve. You’re going to be severely limited, you can’t raise your Ki over ten percent of your maximum, five percent for you An’ya, and all of you are completely banned from flying, levitating, and," Trunks’s gaze settled on Setsuna, "most especially, no teleporting. If you do any of those things," Trunks tapped himself on the temple with two fingers, "I’ll know about it, even if I’m sleeping. It’s time to split you up, everyone follow."
"Hai, Sensei!"

The ever cheerful Setsuna managed a frown, as he looked over his surroundings. It was too late to protest, and Setsuna doubted Trunks would have listened anyway. It took quite a bit to feed a Yardratto sei-jin, not that the life on this planet wasn’t capable of providing that sustenance, it just meant that Setsuna would be the last one back to the Capsule Corporation building.
Would _probably_ be the last one back to the Capsule Corporation building. He was the weakest of Trunks’s students, but unlike the others, he knew approximately how far away from Trunks he was. He was the only one of Trunks’s students who could sense Ki. Also, he was somewhat used to the barren, rocky landscape in which he’d been ‘dropped’, so to speak, it was similar to his homeworld in many respects, and the one-hundred and fifty year old (young for his kind) Yardratto sei-jin knew he could not only survive, but could prosper as well.
The only thing he’d have to deal with would be loneliness.

Eimin Gyokusai, named ‘honorable death’ by his overly cynical, and now deceased, parents. Gyou, was less pleased than his alien friends, but at least he was in familiar territory with no Oceans to cross, unlike An’ya. Dispite his name (and surly deposition), Gyou was a deeply spiritual man, often looking at the names his alien comrades had called themselves, and finding the apparent meanings to them as well. He couldn’t help but grin when he thought of his beautiful co-trainee. So she was stronger than him, so what? She was more beautiful than any woman he’d ever met before, of any age.
He stopped short in his musings, as they were distracting him from the task at hand.
I’m friggin’ glad I was born before the Jinzouningen were destroyed, Gyou thought, for once being completely honest with himself, I know how to catch critters out here on ‘the wastes’, so Trunks’s training will be a bit easier for me than the grayskins.
Again, the competitive Gyou smiled, this little ‘camping trip’, as he was coming to think of it, would be nothing but torture for the twin whiners.
Truth told, he was 100% right too.

The woman known as An’ya stood on a high cliff overlooking the ocean. Her black skin eerily reflected the light of the setting sun, and, dispite herself, An’ya was drawn to the beauty of the sunset. Facial features lined in reds, oranges, and purples of all shades, the same term could easily be used for her. Her long, lustrous green hair appeared black in the fading light, as the woman watched the sun fade beneath the vast ocean. She knew, from experience, if she looked hard enough she could see the opposite shore, a thin ribbon of land barely noticeable from the small island where Trunks had left her.
There were no trees growing here, none large enough for her to make a raft with, at any rate, and the animals were too small to make a decent meal. That left An’ya with two options, fishing and swimming, neither of which she was good at.
If I had wanted to be a fisherman, I would’ve stayed home. How’s this supposed to help me become stronger? An’ya had been outmaneuvered by the crafty Saiya-jin, at five percent of her maximum power she was weaker than all of Trunks’s other students save Setsuna.
Even at that, she thought she’d be able to swim the channel in about a day, but she was certain it would exhaust her completely, and she’d seen large predators from the air while flying with Trunks, and she was uncertain of what swam in the dark waters around the island.
To say she was not pleased would be a major understatement.
I’m gonna get him for this... An’ya thought, thinking of Trunks. Him and those damned twins for pissing him off. He just had to punish all of us for their stupid mistakes. Her eyes narrowed in annoyance. She didn’t really blame Trunks, but she planned on making Kaka and Neko’s respective lives a living hell when she got back to the Capsule Corporation building.
Focusing on her dilemma, An’ya cursed, and found herself hoping the situation wouldn’t look as bad in the morning.

An’ya’s swim had turned out to be less of a problem than the slim girl had realized. She’d feared what unknown creatures the water might hold, but starving on a rocky island was a less pleasant way to die than was being eaten by a giant fish... at least she could fight back against the fish, so she’d decided to risk swimming the distance between her island and shore, a distance she estimated at about eighteen kilometers.
Once in the water, however, she found it was actually quite easy to propel herself as if she was flying, though underwater, which dropped her travel time quite a bit. Even with that boost, though, it still took her about ten hours to reach the opposite shore, her travel time lengthening slightly when she was forced to swim normally the last three kilometers when her strength started fading.
Warily, she pulled herself up onto the beach, water coursing off her body. Dressed in nondescript white panties and a sports bra, with her soaked clothing tied around her waist, An’ya immediately set out to find some wood to start a fire, both to stave off the chill she knew wouldn’t be long in coming, and to dry her clothing. Still, dispite being wet, cold, and slightly overexposed, An’ya was proud of herself for crossing her first obstical without any major problems. Briefly, she wondered if perhaps this Trunks’s motives for sending her out on ‘survival training’ might be to improve her self confidence, something she knew she was sorely lacking. It wasn’t as if she doubted her strength, or anything, she just found it hard to believe that she could’ve survived if she’d faced the same hardships as had Trunks during his life. Ultimately, she dismissed the thought as trivial, and returned to searching for wood for a fire.

"Soon, my children... soon you will be released!" The dark figure of a man smiled, all he needed was a little more power, and his plans would finally come to fruition. "What is their status, Rojo?"
The reply was mechanical, from a machine that looked like a trashcan with legs. "We are at ninety-six percent power, Doctor."
"Hmm... thank you Rojo." The man let out a sinister laugh that suddenly turned into a coffing fit. Rojo, dispite being a robot, managed a pretty impressive sweatdrop.

Mountains, Mountains, Mountains! What is it with this world and Mountains? An’ya looked out from the top of a peak, just south of the burned-out remains of North City. The range stretched as far as she could see. Normally, it would be no obstical for her, but banned from flying... well, that put things in a different light. This is gonna take me _forever_! There are dinosaurs up here too, I’ve seen them. Damn this power limitation! I’m no match for any dinosaur like this, I’m far too weak!
She looked around, attempting to locate shelter of some kind. I might be safe in the North City ruins, but then again, that’s where all of the smaller preditors must be. I must admit, facing off against a baby Tyranosaurous might not be as tough as an adult, but it still wouldn’t be fun... I haven’t mastered Ki Projection Attacks yet!
She was lucky, though, simply because of the time of day. Just after twilight, An’ya noticed a flock of bats, flying away from the mountain beneath her. Strange, she thought, I thought bats lived in trees... but there aren’t any anywhere near where they’re coming fro... DUH! a cave! An’ya grinned. She didn’t much enjoy the thought of spending the night in a cave full of bat dung, but it would be better than being eaten (or bringing her power up above five-percent of her maximum, which Trunks would never let her live down).
In a flash she was moving down the mountain, more sliding than running, amidst a small avalanch of rocks and sand. Too late, she remembered that caves were quite often found in cliff faces, and An’ya was unable to stop herself before skidding off the edge and into empty space.
It was, fortunately, a short drop. Unfortunately, however, An’ya hit her head hard on the landing. Normally, such an impact wouldn’t have hurt, but weakened as she was (through Trunks’s orders), the fall knocked her senseless for a couple of minutes. When she came to, she stood, brushed herself off, and made a vow to be more careful... for the duration of the survival training, anyways.
That was when she noticed the cave.
Wow... huge entrance, and it looks like it goes back quite a ways too! An’ya smiled, Perfect!
Her vow to be more cautious already forgotten, An’ya waltzed right into the cave, not really watching where she was going (and, at any rate, it would be far too dark to see anyways). She cursed quietly when she walked into something that wasn’t rock, nor even natural.
What the hell is a metal door doing here? She thought, slightly distressed. Faintly, she could hear voices... well... _a_ voice, anyways, coming from the opposite side of the door. She couldn’t make out anything being said, however. An’ya leaned forward, until her forehead touched the metal door. Focusing on a trick she’d known long before she’d ever heard of the half-Saiya-jin named Trunks, An’ya opened her mind’s eye. A glowing white representation of a human eye appeared in the center of her forehead, pressed up against the metal door. No longer focusing on much of anything, An’ya watched the activity on the inside of the room, knowing that the occupants _couldn’t_ see her.
Oh no... I’ve got to tell Trunks-sensei!
