Chapter 16:
"Tenkaichi Budoukai: Second Round: Vejiita vs. Ryuu An’ya!"

Vejiita’s eyes narrowed as he glared at his opponant. "I’m not going to go easy on you just because you’re with Trunks. I won’t go easy on the brat either, after I beat you."

An’ya glared at Trunks’s father. "You know, I never realized how big a Jerk you really were."

Vejiita growled. "I’ve killed people for less."

"So have I, ‘Bejiita-oji’. You don’t impress me, even if you are a Super Saiya-jin."

"We’ll see."

"Yes, I guess we will."

"Can she win, Trunks?"

"Yes. An’ya’s very strong. She’s got a good chance of winning this fight... so long as Vejiita doesn’t transform into a Super Saiya-jin. An’ya’s strong, but she’s not quite strong enough to defend against that level yet."

Setsuna shrugged. "Well, considering she’s the strongest of us all, what does that say for our chances?"

Trunks grimaced. "I had hoped to be fighting Vejiita now, not any of you."

"Seems the dice didn’t fall that way." Gyou said, shrugging. "Still, An’ya will do well, even if she doesn’t win."

Trunks shook his head. "It’s not quite as simple as that, Gyou. My father won’t go easy on her, especially if she prooves to be stronger than he thinks she is."

"Your point."

Trunks’s eyes narrowed. "My father has a penchant for overdoing things. I’m worried about An’ya’s safety."

Gyou looked at Trunks. "You weren’t worried about my safety."

Trunks glanced at him. "Don’t take this the wrong way, but that’s because you’re not really a threat to him, Gyou. An’ya is, and that puts her in danger."

"Yet you’re not worried about yourself?"

Trunks shook his head. "No, I’m not. Win or Loose, I can take care of myself."

"Yet you don’t trust that An’ya can take care of herself?"

Trunks sighed. "I can’t help but worry, consider it to be a case of ‘mother hen syndrome’."

"‘Mother Hen Syndrome’ nothing, Trunks." Juuhachi said, smiling. "You’re in love."

An’ya’s fight with Vejiita started quickly, with An’ya focusing mostly on defense, testing her opponant’s strength. Vejiita, obviously thinking little of Trunks’s training, attacked with in a fury of punches and kicks, most of which An’ya blocked easily, others she purposely let slip past, to make Vejiita think even less of her fighting style.

If what they told me about him was True, An’ya thought absentmindedly, Vejiita’s got an ego bigger than Chikyuu-sei. I need to find some way to use that to my advantage, to make him overextend himself.

Vejiita smiled. "Your fighting style is very sloppy."

"I already said I’m not impressed with you, Vejiita. The fact that you’ve hit me and done basicly no harm doesn’t change that."

Vejiita stopped. "You seek to anger me? Is that the best one of Trunks’s students can do? Yeah, I bet it is. He can’t help you with your Ki, so he helps you make stupid plans. Tell me, is the Yardratto-jin speaking to you now?"

An’ya’s eyes narrowed. "Kutibacchimae!"

"That an invitation?"

"Hiretsukan!"

Vejiita grinned "I know what you’re trying to do, girl. It won’t work, believe me. Let’s get this fight overwith, shall we? I’d like to beat you some time this morning, ‘cause I don’t have all day."

Trunks turned away from Juuhachi, trying to hide his blush with the collar of his coat. Gyou and Setsuna’s jaws dropped. Karugo looked at all of them strangely, shrugged, and mumbled ‘I don’t get it’, before returning his attention to the fight.

"That true, Trunks? Do you love An’ya?" Setsuna’s eyes practically glowed with curiosity, and Trunks found he couldn’t meet the little alien’s gaze.

Do I? I wish I knew for sure... I like her... but love? Hell, Trunks, you don’t even know if you’re compatable! You can’t answer a question if you’re not sure if your response is the correct one!

Juuhachi shook her head. "Don’t even try to deny it, Trunks. I can see it in your eyes when I look at her."

Trunks whispered something very softly, as if reassuring himself of something. Juuhachi grabbed him by the Gi and forced him to look at her. "I can’t hear you, Trunks. Mind repeating that?"

Trunks’s eyes narrowed. "I said I care for all of my students, Juuhachi... even you, though at times I really feal like _strangling_ you."

Juuhachi grinned. "Do you love her, though?"

Trunks blushed again, and tried to look away.

"I see you don’t even try to deny it, and your blushing, so I must’ve hit pretty close to the mark. Hai?"

"Mind your own business, Juuhachi."

Juuhachi grinned. "I thought so."

Trunks returned his attention to the fight, or, more specifically, to An’ya. Is Juuhachi right? Do I love her? I wish I could say for sure...

An’ya barely managed to dodge a blow that could have broken bone had it connected. Shimatta! He’s fast and strong... I’m a little faster, but it’s not a noticable difference! Kuso! I’ve just got to hope I can keep this up longer than he can, otherwise I’m finished!

An’ya and Vejiita traded punches and kicks for a second, An’ya hitting Vejiita more often, but Vejiita hitting her back harder. All in all, it was turning out to be a pretty even match. Punch for punch, though, An’ya was giving at least as good as she got, and it was starting to frustrate Vejiita-oji.

They ended their attacks, springing away from each other, and staring.

"What’s wrong, little man? Am I better than you expected?"

"You’re nothing compaired to me, insect! I can crush you at will."

An’ya grinned. "At least my head doesn’t look like a god damned evergreen tree!"

Vejiita growled in annoyance, his muscles tensing. An’ya was watching him intently, and was not suprised when he struck, deflecting his attack and nearly sending him out of the ring.

"Poor Vejiita-oji!"

Vejiita’s eyes narrowed dangerously, as he forced himself to remain calm. "You’ll pay for that, jajauma."

An’ya’s eyes narrowed. "Really, Vejiita-oji, such language."

"I’ll crush you like a bug!"

An’ya grinned. "Crush who like a bug, Vejiita-oji? Most bugs are taller than you are!

Vejiita growled in anger, and dropped his stance even lower.

An’ya grinned. "What’s wrong, Vejiita? Constipated?"

Vejiita smiled in response. "Not quite."

Trunks scowled as he sensed his father’s Ki increase drastically. Kokuhyou!

Setsuna’s eyes widened. "Trunks, is Vejiita-oji going to...!"

"Hai..."

"That means..."

"An’ya’s going to loose."

Setsuna looked down at his feet. "And we can’t do anything to stop it."

"Iie, we can’t. My father, is about to become a Super Saiya-jin!"

***

‘AN’YA!’ The call was the clear, easily understood words Setsuna’s telepathic communications. ‘Supaa Saiya-Jin!’

It took her a fraction of a second to realize exactly what Setsuna ment. The tought chilled her to the bone. He wouldn’t! She tried to assure herself, but cursed as she felt Vejiita’s drastic rise in Ki. He would... DAMN HIM!

Vejiita transformed in a flash of his golden Ki. Surrounded by a glowing aura, An’ya stared directly at him, not flinching.

Vejiita grinned. "You’re one of my son’s students, doubtless you know what I am right now." Vejiita’s eyes narrowed. "I suggest you yield."

An’ya glared back at him. "I’ll not surrender."

Vejiita shook his head. "Stupid girl. You’re completely outclassed, yet you’re willing to fight. Why?"

"Maybe I’ve got strength enough to beat you."

"Or maybe you’re bluffing. It doesn’t matter, you loose NOW!"

Vejiita vanished. Trying to anticipate her opponant, An’ya tried to dodge the blow she knew was coming. Vejiita hit her anyway, and she felt something in her chest break. Well, several somethings to be precise.

Damn! He punctured my lung, at least once... Kuso! I’m not going to give up, though! Damn you Vejiita!

Not pausing, Vejiita continued his attack. His sweep-kick shattered her left shin, sending a jolt of pain through her body and causing her to gasp involuntarily. Unable to do anything else, An’ya fell... or started to, until Vejiita kicked her straight up in the air.

No! I can’t... I can’t loose! There’s no way I could loose to this Jerk! Damn! An’ya’s gaze found the section of the audience where her friends were sitting. Beat this bastard for me, Trunks-kun!

Vejiita’a next attack connected cleanly with An’ya’s spine. The pain was more intense than anything she’d felt in her life, sending a shock to his brain. For a second, An’ya couldn’t even breathe. She only started again once she hit the ground.

"Upstart" She heard a distant voice say. It was very faint, but she recognised it as Vejiita. "You’re going to pay for even thinking of opposing me..."

He said more but her hearing was destroyed by an annoyingly loud buzz. An’ya slipped into unconsiousness, pain eclipsing any comfort she might have found even then.

***

"An’ya Ryuu looses the battle. Bejiita is the victor!"

Vejiita ignored the referee. He wasn’t done yet, not by a long shot. This... this _girl_ had insulted him! There was no way in _Hell_ that he going to stand for it. Vejiita kicked her in the stomach, eyes narrowing. "Where’s your talk now, girl?"

Vejiita raised a foot to strike again, but was knocked back by a foot to the face. Angered, Vejiita looked straight into the eyes of his son, and actually flinched at the pure _hatrid_ he saw in them.

Trunks’s eyes closed, as he tried to overcome his rage. "That was unnecessisary, Vejiita."

Vejiita blinked. He called me Vejiita, not ‘Tousan’ or ‘Otousan’... But... But Trunks allways calls me ‘Tousan...

"Trunks..."

Trunks bent down and picked up the bleeding, brused An’ya as gently as he could. Dispite the minor pain that not being acknowledged as Trunks’s father caused him, the fact that his son was now ignoring him was even worse.

"Trunks, I..."

Trunks flew off before he could finish, leaving Vejiita stunned.

He’s never done that before... ever! Even when my training was at it's most brutal he never once... no, I refuse to think about it! I won’t let Buruma’s weakness infect me as well! It’s that kind of thinking that makes you soft! I’m Vejiita, I don’t care about anything, or anyone! I AM VEJIITA, AND I DON’T NEED ANYTHING OR ANYONE! YOU HEAR ME, TRUNKS?

***

Even had Trunks heard, he wouldn’t have cared much. Wouldn’t have cared at all, in fact. He was more worried about An’ya than he was about his father’s immense ego. Landing at the capsule house that he and his students had been staying in, Trunks kicked open the door, and entered. Gently as possable, he layed An’ya down on the bed, and checked her pulse, and checked to see if she was breathing.

On both counts she was, though her breathing was very shallow, and her heartrate slow. Trunks cursed, silently. "An’ya, I’m going to go get you help. Just hold on. SETSUNA!"

The little alien 'poofed' into existance. "Hai, sensei?"

"Setsuna, bring Juuhachi here. Now. Tell her to watch An’ya until I get back, okay?"

"Where are you going, Trunks?"

"I’m going to get her medical help."

"Hai, Trunks-sama! I’m on it!" Setsuna dissappeared, and reappeared a second later with Juuhachi in tow.

Juuhachi seemed a bit... stunned. "Nanda?"

"Setsuna, tell her, now! I’ve got to go."

"Hai!"

Trunks launched himself out the door, pulling it closed as he passed. As quickly as possable, Trunks aimed himself towards the largest close concentration he could find. I hope that’s a town with a doctor! An’ya needs help _badly_!

End of Chapter 16:

No! Bad Vejiita, Bad! Injured, possably dieing, will An’ya hold out long enough for Trunks to get her some kind of help? Will Trunks be seriously friggin’ pissed at Vejiita? Will he admit that he loves An’ya? Will it turn out that An’ya loves him back? Hell, I don’t know, and it probably won’t even be revealed next chapter, but things are definitely going to get a bit strange! Catch you on the flip-side! Gojitsu! ^_^

I’ll see you in Chapter 17.
