Working full-time, mother of three wonderful boys and happily married to my best friend, one would say that my life is complete. You think? Well guess again. Over the years, I have worked diligently to become the best that I can be in all. As for a career choice, there was never a time where I said, "I want to be a secretary". However, there came a time when I said, "If I only knew what I know today after having my children, I would assist mothers in childbirth". I treasure the time I spend with women and their families who are preparing for the birth of their child and am thrilled when they ask me to join in on this so very important time of their life and enjoy watching all these little smiling faces as they grow up. What a sense of belonging. I'm humbled every time I leave the room. Taking a peek through the closing door, I see shear happiness ... one that makes your heart feel so full you feel like you are going to explode. Ten years ago I began on the road of becoming a professional childbirth educator and have since expanded to being a professional childbirth assistant also known as a Doula, or Birth Coach. I provide continuous non-medical labour support for a mother and her partner who desires a positive birth experience with their doctor and wishes to reduce the chances of medical intervention during a hospital birth. I recognize birth as a key life experience which the woman will remember all her life. I want to nurture, protect and enhance that very special memory. I am a trained professional who is not pushing dads and other willing participants in the big event out the labour room door. I am part of the non-clinical team, providing an added measure of support and knowledge. Ginette Walton Childbirth Educator - Lamaze Method |
