Introduction

We will use this activity as an introduction to The Autobiography of Malcolm X.
I hope to acquaint students to the social climate of the times and to introduce them
to the difficulties that African-American students faced during the era of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X.

2. What school was forced to accept black students?
3. Who were the nine students who were kept from entering Central High on Sept. 3?
4. What happened to the students when they attempted to enter the school?
5. What were their thoughts on that day?
6. What are these people doing today as adults?
7. How did the experience impact their lives?
8. What do they consider the social climate to be today? How far have we come?
9. What happened to them after the Central High student?
10. Did any student have any work published about the incident or the social climate of the trust?
