Relena's Diplomatic Day

By Catzi-Star

Relena and all the other diplomatic speakers were in a black limo on their way to another conference. It was a beautiful sunny day, but the limo's tinted windows deceived its true brightness.

"Oh I wish I could have just this one day to myself," Relena said quietly. "It's been raining so much lately that I haven't been able to enjoy it."

"We're here Miss Relena," Noin said very unenthusiastically.

"From your tone of voice you don't seem to want to go to this meeting either," Relena said.

"I feel even worse knowing how beautiful it is outside, and not being able to enjoy it," Noin said.

Relena sat down at the head of a big table. All the eager men of the colony awaited Relena's speech. But just then, the big window behind Relena broke. Heero stood sweating and breathing heavily in the midst of the shattered window. Relena turned to see the intruder.

"Heero!" Relena said noticing Heero's exhaustion. "What are you doing here?! Are you okay?!"

All the diplomatic speakers stood up from their chairs. Noin started to walk towards Relena, but Relena gestured for her to stay there. Relena went over to Heero and put her hands out just barely touching him. Relena inquired Heero once more asking if he was ok, but Heero collapsed in her arms. A gun fell from his left hand.

"Quickly someone get a doctor!" Relena shouted worried. All the diplomatic speakers rushed out the door. Relena turned back to Heero. She could feel Heero's sweat soak her. She took a cloth handkerchief out of her pocket and tried relieving Heero of his dripping forehead and neck. Noin walked over to Relena.

"Heero, are you okay? Please talk to me!" Relena said holding Heero. He said nothing.

Heero woke in the bed of a hospital, and it was dark outside. Heero was aware of the I.V. bag hooked up to him. He wanted to escape. Just as he went to rip out the I.V. line, he noticed something lying on his stomach.

"Relena?" Heero said with his hand just over her head. Relena was sitting in a chair close to Heero's bed with her head on his stomach, and her arms out in front of her. She was still in her pink suit from the meeting. Relena felt Heero's movement and lifted quickly off Heero. She got an embarrassed look on her face.

"What are you doing here Relena?" Heero asked sitting up. Relena got a concerned/sad look on her face.

"You were trying to kill me again weren't you?" Relena said.

Heero looked away.

"Why?" Relena asked. "You know how much I care for you."

Heero didn't answer.

"Well getting back to your previous question," Relena said, "You barged in during my meeting looking terribly exhausted. So I went over to try to help you and you collapsed in my arms."

Heero turned and gave Relena a slight smile.

"Know this Relena," Heero said. "I have vowed to protect you. I will never even attempt to kill you."

Relena smiled.

The Next Day-

Noin was looking through Relena's desk searching for her upcoming conference papers. Noin opened up the bottom drawer of the desk, and rummaged through all the folders, but found nothing. Just then she came across a pink envelope stuffed in a journal. It was from Relena's birthday two months earlier. Noin smiled.

"I know I shouldn't," Noin said taking the journal and envelope out of the drawer. "But maybe this will help me understand her feelings about him."

Noin cracked opened he envelope. It read:

Relena-

I know that I haven't been around lately, and I'm sorry. A new enemy has appeared, and I must take care of that. I don't want you to worry though. You need to focus on your diplomatic responsibilities. I know you are lonely sometimes, but I will always be here. I promise to come see you soon, so please don't cry. I hate to see you in despair because of me. Happy Birthday.

-Heero

Noin smiled at the thoughtful letter. She carefully folded it back up, and put it in the envelope. Then she picked up the journal and flipped to the latest journal entry, which was two months ago- Relena's birthday. It was a response to Heero's letter. It read:

Oh Heero. I miss you so much. But thank you for thinking of me on my birthday. Yes I do get sad and lonely without you, but I manage. Thank you for wishing me a Happy Birthday…

That was all that was written. Noin noticed little circles of wetness on the page of the journal. Tears…Noin thought. It must have been too painful for her to keep writing about Heero any further.

It was around 7:30 at night. Duo was walking towards Heero's hospital room to visit him. Visiting hours were almost over, so Duo was hurrying. Knowing that guy he probably already has escaped from here... Duo thought to himself smiling.

Duo walked into Heero's room and almost died. Heero was propped up in his bed

with Relena sleeping in his arms.

"Unbelievable," Duo said. That's incredible I can't believe…"

Duo was too shocked to make a coherent sentence.

Heero was released from the hospital the next day. Relena and Duo came and got him. Relena and Heero decided that they were going to spend the rest of the day together. Duo was obviously upset, because he didn't want to hang around the other Gundam pilots for the whole day, because all they did was sip tea, and all Wufei did was procrastinate and ramble on about "injustice." Duo sighed.

Heero and Relena went back to their mansion and got changed. Relena got dressed in a beautiful pink sleeveless dress. Heero stood looking at his cherry-wood dresser and stared at it.

"Listen," Heero said staring at the dresser. "I don't like you and you don't like me, but I need something casual to wear."

So Heero dug deep down through the dresser drawer past his fancy formal tuxedos, and past his winter clothes.

"Aha," Heero said. "Perfect." Heero got dressed in gray slacks and a white shirt with all but two buttons buttoned towards the collar.

Heero met Relena at the bottom of the huge stair case. They took each others hands and went out the doors. They decided just to go spend time in the huge garden that was in the back of the mansion.

All day they talked, teased each other, and admired the beauty of the garden. They were still in the garden by mid-evening.

"Heero it's getting late. We should go back before the others start to worry about us," Relena said.

Heero pulled Relena close and said, "They won't mind."

Heero and Relena danced the night away with music in their heads. Laughing and dancing. That was all it was. They were so happy just being with each other. Finally, Relena and Heero got tired and gradually started falling asleep. Before Heero fell asleep in Relena's arms, she whispered to him "I love you forever…"

"They were sleeping in the garden," Duo said to everyone at the breakfast table, except the obvious absence of Heero and Relena. "I found them when I came on my way to breakfast."

"I'm surprised Heero didn't try to kill you," Trowa said sipping some tea. "I'm sure he would have heard you."

"Thank god he didn't," Whufei said. "I don't want to have to clean up mutilated Maxwell in that pleasant garden."

Everyone laughed.

The End?

It never is…
