Elizabeth Nunez
 
Elizabeth Nunez is the author of three critically acclaimed novels: 
When Rocks Dance, which was translated into German and is the subject of literary monographs as well as masters theses and doctoral dissertations;
Beyond the Limbo Silence, which received the 1999 IPPY award (Independent Publishers Award) in multicultural fiction; 
and Bruised Hibiscus, published in summer, 2000. 
 
Her fourth novel, Discretion, will be published by Ballantine Press in late winter 2001.   She is co-editor of the collection of essays, Defining Ourselves: Black Writers in the 90s and author of several scholarly articles.
 
Dr. Nunez is the director of the National Black Writers Conference for which she has been awarded five grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as grants from the Nathan Cummings Foundation and the Reed Foundation. This conference, which attracts thousands of attendees, has presented a roster of stellar award winning writers and scholars, including Maya Angelou, Derek Walcott, Gwendolyn Brooks, Alice Walker, Amiri Baraka, Jill Nelson, Terry McMillan, and Paula Giddings.
 
Dr. Nunez is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Medgar Evers Colleges first Carter G. Woodson Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.
