Rani Luminitsa Koshtenengo |
Luminitsa Koshtenengo was born just outside Madrid, Spain (Drackhenwald) in the Autumn of the late 1500's. She led a happy life as the daughter to the Rom Baro of their Kumpania, who traveled down to Paris, France when she was still but a young chey. There they lived for many years, manageing as they could, and became prosperous, traveling around the towns perfoming and entertaining. Then one night an angry mob set upon the Kumpania while they slept. Many of the clan perished that night, and amazingly enough, Luminitsa was spared, being pulled by one of her uncles out of her vardo seconds before it collapsed. Moments later her uncle was seized and attacked by a two people, and she ran for her life, frightened, into stable nearby where she hid. The next morning she woke up and wandered back to the camp, back to the realisation that she was all alone in the world. Her family was gone.... But sad as it is, life goes on. Lumi gathered her belongings into a knapsack and trundled once more from town to town, finding one way or another to survive. After performing one evening at a summer carnival in a French portside village, she was walking alongside the docks when she was set upon by two men. Managing to throw one of them into the murky water, she was seized by the other, a knife held to her throat. But not for long. The last thing she remembers is hearing heavy footsteps, the sshiiiing of a sword being removed from its scabbard and some foreign words before being thrown forward and knocking her head and blacking out.... Water. Luminitsa awoke to the sound of calmly lapping water. Rising, she realised she was on board a ship, and the ship was ....moving?! She ran outside to find the owner of the ship, and when she found him, tried to explain that this was all a horrible mistake. But to no avail. The privateer (who looked shifty and suspicious and who Luminitsa suspected then and confirmed later on was actually a pirate) explained that there was no turning back, they were days from where they left. And they were heading to a new and exciting land. So there she was.... There, to stay. Months passed smoothly and Luminitsa eventually began to make friends with her companions, yet made an agreement that as soon as they reached land, they would go on their seperate ways. Eventually the day came when the privateer ( ;) ) ship landed on the fair Lochac shores. Promises kept, they parted ways. Luminitsa travelled once more on her own, a terrible thing for a gypsy to be. But she had no choice and wanted to make the best out of any situation. Her skills and intuition got her by. Then one evening she stepped into a barony called Stormhold. It was a cold and Lumi could see her breath as she pitched up her tent for the time she would be there. Then, lo and behold she met her aquaintances again, and traded tales. Luminitsa has since started up and is "Rani Bari" or 'big woman' (chief) of the Kumpania Copper Lantern, in the Society year of AS 38. |
