"HERON" CARAVAN

This caravan is a Burton Wagon by Watts of Bridgewater, Somerset about 1905.  May have belonged to the well-known Heron family who travelled mainly around East Anglia in the 19th century.  This caravan is now in Poulters Romany Museum, Ower in Hampshire.  I've made this caravan as part of my collection as it has five windows. It is built to 1/8th scale and highly decorated outside; having four carved Herons on the front and back porches, also on the front there are animal heads carved on the panels.  I used only British animal heads on this model. It is highly painted also a lot of motifs with gold leaf.  Inside is fully furnished and varnished throughout.

The furnishings: -

  • The bedchamber has etched mirrors on the front with pictures and the bed ready made up.
  • All widows are curtained and the floor carpeted.
  • Wardrobes and seats fitted.
  • The stove is built into a surround with airing cupboard at the back.
  • There is a glass cabinet, chest of drawers, wall cupboard and plate rack with plates.
  • The ceiling is fitted with electric lights and highly decorated.
