Gypsy's Pit Bull Haven

This is a sad topic due to the emergence of BSL within the United States. Many shelters no longer give the Pit Bull an opportunity to prove its worth within a family structure. Once the number one family dog and babysitter of children, this breed rarely gets a second chance from shelters due to the legality and fear unduly associated with it. Many are euthanized on the spot regardless of their temperment. I currently have two rescues due to a local shelter's policy on the dipostition of this breed. If you ever find there is no alternative, but to get rid of your dog this way, make sure of your shelter's policy on the pit-related breed. There are many breed rescues available around the country. Before buying a pit intended for a family pet with no intentions on showing, look to these rescues. Do not line the pockets of backyard breeders with no intentions of improving the breed and its preservation in the communities. Many of the pits that end up in shelters are the result of irresponsible ownership, abuse and neglect. This breed of dog has a high drive to please their owner at any expense and will tolerate some of the most unspeakable abuse from those they will follow with their last breath.
