Explain in 10-20 lines how these LEXIQUES AND VOCABULAIRES can be useful to you as a translator.

 

A). IS THERE A SPANISH ACADEMIC OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ? WHAT FULLFILLS THE SAME ROLE?

 

BROWSE THE INTERNET TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS. (WRITE 10-20 LINES)

 

B). Go to the article on Spanish in Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_language#Geographic_distribution ) and find information about the role of the dictator Francisco Franco in the use of the word "Español" to refer to the Spanish language.   Write a brief note about it.

 

C). Read  about the sections HISTORY and CRITICISMS in the article in Wikipedia about the Real Academia Española ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_language#Geographic_distribution ). Write a 10 line paragraph explaining your agreement or disagreement with some of the opinions in mentioned sections of Wikipedia.

 

 

D). GO TO THE FOLLOWING SITE: http://www.answers.com/topic/association-of-spanish-language-academies  and answer the following questions:

What is the role of the Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española?

What resulted from the cooperation between the Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española  and the RAE?

 

E). GO TO THE SITE OF THE REAL ACADEMIA ESPAÑOLA   (http://www.rae.es/) and then click on the link of the DICCIONARIO PANHISPÁNICO DE DUDAS. Browse all the links in the window and give a brief description of the DICCIONARIO. Include something about how useful it can be for  the translator?

 

 

F). GO TO THE SITE OF THE REAL ACADEMIA ESPAÑOLA   (http://www.rae.es/) and in the DICCIONARIO PANHISPÁNICO DE DUDAS  find a definition of the following linguistic terms(Use a table in Word): construcción absoluta, anaphora,anfibología, calco, causativo,desinencia, eufemismo,locución, partitivo,pronombre enclítico, topónimo

 

G). WHEN YOU FIND YOURSELF  IN THE DICCIONARIO PANHISPÁNICO DE DUDAS, click on the link artículos temáticos.

Answer the following questions:

1.According to the dictionariy, when should you use the ISO standard to write dates?

2.How can you use the single bar with dates?

3. Write two cases in which you can use the double bar and give examples.

4. Read the topic about the DASH (raya) and correct the following sentences:

Esperaba a Emilio un gran amigo. Lamentablemente, no vino.

Venezuela primer lugar de tierra firme avistado por Colón en su tercer viaje a América.

 

H). In the same DICCIONARIO PANHISPÁNICO DE DUDAS, click on the link:  Qué contiene el diccionario panhispánico de dudas? Then, click on the link on foreign words (Tratamiento de extranjerismos ).

I).Summarize the policy of the DICCIONARIO PANHISPÁNICO concerning foreign words. (10 lines)
