NEW(S)!
11 Feb 2001 - bug fix. Apparently double-clicking on the filelist while the player is in stop mode will not activate the player to play the selected track. Ditto for right-clicking on the playlist and selecting "Play from this track onwards". Fixed!

- fixed a few bugs that caused the player to crash when in minimized mode and
fixed a problem with filenames with commas in them. Apparently I used commas
to separate the playlist fields, which wasn't very wise as I forgot that with
long filenames, commas can be in a filename as well. Thus, the playlists that
this version v2.52 creates is not compatible with the
ones created by 2.5 and vice versa. Sorry!!
Also implemented that the player display only the filename being played, and
not the entire pathname. Thanks ZS!
Introduction
Homp3 is a freeware software MP3 player powered by the Xaudio SDK. The Xaudio decoding engine is one of the finer MP3 engines around today, together with the Nitrane decoding engine found in WinAMP 2.x, the StarDust/AE4 engine found in Sonique and the Xing decoder by Xingtech. While each of the decoding engines listed above have their own merits, only the Xaudio SDK is available freely for download and for use, that is why I have created this player based on the Xaudio SDK.
[ Homp3 is based on the popular Xaudio SDK ]
Furthermore, most of the popular MP3 players today feature memory and processor hogging features like skins, graphical equalizers, visual effects, etc which I do not have any use for. I just need a simple MP3 player with a easy to use playlist that I can use to play my MP3s in the background, with minimal fuss, therefore I present...Homp3.
Features
A summary of the features of the Xaudio decoder engine can be found on the Xaudio website, so there's no need to go into the nitty-gritty details about the features, performance and quality of the Xaudio engine.
"First off let me say that I love your little player." - ML (user)
"I
was looking for a low CPU utilization mp3 player,
when yours came to mind." - A.A. (user)
What Homp3 offers is an extremely easy-to-use filelist to playlist feature not unlike the Jukebox program that came bundled with your old SoundBlaster 16 DOS/Win3.x package from ages ago.
"The filelist-next-to-playlist idea is great. Now when was the last time something like this was around?" - CZW (beta tester)
You select the mp3 files that you want to enqueue and click on the "Add" button to add the files into the playlist. Click on the "Play" button to start playing the tracks in the playlist and there you go! No twidding or fiddling with additional useless buttons or menus or submenus to simply queue your files up in the playlist!
Version 2.5, total new release, source rebuilt from scratch. Bookmark feature, ability to load/save playlists, new interface.
This current version (v2.53 b281) finally includes the load/save playlist feature and sports a BookMark feature that lets you bookmark your favourite MP3 directories! With the same great "filelist-to-playlist" interface that won many fans in its previous incarnations, v2.5 sports a new, sleeker interface as well as fixed several bugs.

Homp3 is available in the ZIP file format, which you will need PKUNZIP or WINZIP to extract. There are 3 files in the distribution - Homp3.exe (the main executable), xaudio.dll (the xaudio decoding library), bookmark.ini and homp3.ini. These 4 files must reside in the same directory or else the program will not run. It's best to extract all the files into your MP3 storage directory for easy use.
Main : Download homp3.zip (version 2.53 - 310kb)
To uninstall Homp3, simply delete the files Homp3.exe, xaudio.dll, readme.txt and homp3.ini, bookmark.ini and *.pl. There will be no other leftover files, registry keys, etc to clutter up your system.
"I
like it very much as it is not needed to install
and leave no rubbish in the system." - ZS (user)
