SISPEC Echo and Foxtrot Companies went for Ex Warrior in ROC, Taiwan, in early August 99. It was a fun and happening 4 day uncontrolled NAVEX (navigation exercise), followed by a 7 day, gruelling Ex Warrior. Combat rations never felt so good; and the non-tactical break during Aug 9 (Singapore's National Day) was food in high heaven. Who could forget the delicious and piping hot charsiew rice and the bottles of Vitagen that were handed out, which were received with eager and trembling hands..
Shivering under the assault of heavy rains and mudslides, we burnt solid fuels and danced around the tinny fire we created. We charged up and down impossible slopes, waded in the rivers, slept in waterlogged pools. It was here, I took my first puff of Marlboro Red....(A large pack cost only S$1.80! Shane took most of it though =(..)
Shane and me in the bunk, surrounded by our combat ration boxes.
My NAVEX group, after we spent 1 whole afternoon searching for our first
checkpoint.
It started to rain, and out came our $2 ponchos. Pretty scenic eh? Trudging
along in the rain...
Finally found a rest point to harbour for the night...
The morning after, preparations for our next checkpoint...
When nature calls, you'll need to answer it...
Calling the number on the right to order for pizza, delivery in 20 minutes
time...
