6. Open File As Read-Only

To execute this, activate the "File" pull down sub-menu and then select "Open As Read Only" operation (short-cut sequence: <Alt+F>, <r>).

"File:" prompt will appear for you to enter the file name. The prompt operates as described in the File|Open page.

This loads a file from disk in memory and disables editing.

White on red "R" character will appear on the status line to indicate that the file can not be edited (although "write" privilage is granted for this file on disk), as the load completes.
