Lora's World
Lora's World
We had a really cool girl working with us at Daisytek for a while. Her name was Lora Vines. She was quite entertaining.
Let me give you a little background on Lora. She lives in Garland with her parents. She is a naive country girl with quite a drawl. She told us how when
she goes places with her parents, she gets to ride in the front seat in the middle and she plays a funny joke on her mom. She elbows her in the side and they all laugh like this "he he he..." Lora was quite good with the customers. She would always tell them how "We look forward to the orders that you place with us every day at Daisytek." Lora was also very polite when she told customers "Wuhn mohmunt playse." We also thought it nice of her when she informed us that she was "Transferring now..." Often she would show up to work in her little purple beret and her red cape. Because of this cape, she was known as Little Red Riding Hood. And now, I will begin the fun...
At the beginning of Lora's Daisytek experience, she sat with me to listen to me take some calls. When it was time for my break, she came with me. There were a few people in the break room talking when we got there. I introduced her to them, glad that I would not be forced to make small talk by myself the whole time. This was when I found out that Lora Vines is not good with names. After they were all introduced, she went up to each one individually and shook their hand and asked "Now what was your name?" When this was through, we talked for a bit. Then a couple of people got up to leave, but not before she asked each of them again "Now what was your name?" When it was time for us to leave, we started walking out of the room, and we were almost out the door when she paused... She pondered... Then she turned around and asked the remaining person in the room "Now what was your name?" She shook hands again and we proceeded back to my desk. Later on that evening, Lora was getting ready to leave, and i heard it once again. Lekechia said "Bye Lora!" And Lora pondered a moment then asked her "Now what was your name?" Of course, from then on, she always remembered to say "Hey Lekechia!!"
At Daisytek, we have to use alot of scratch paper to keep track of everything we are looking up for customers while we are on the phone. The normal process is to use it and throw it in the trash when we are done with it. However. Lora's scratch paper was TOP SECRET. We figured that she must have been in the FBI and she had to keep all her notes secret from the rest of us. When her shift was over,
Lora's habit was to go over to the trash and tear it up into tiny little pieces so we could not read it. One day, though, we realized that she went to the trash and threw it away without shredding it. Naturally, we retrieved it from the trash as soon as she left. This day we discovered that Lora is a budding cartoonist...
She also thought about her mother during the day...
On the same scratch paper that we foud these insights on we also found her to do list...
Lunch was a very important part of her day.
Now, on this list, I am sure you noticed "repair briefcase". Every day, Lora was sure to bring her brief case to work. This was what she carried her art supplies in. All day long, she drew lovely pictures of castles and dragons and flowers. Many of these pictures were lost in the shredding becuase they were drawn on
her scratch paper. We think they were secret hideout blueprints for the FBI. However, one day, Lekechia saw her drawing a flower and told her that she thought it was pretty. Lora told her that she could have the picture when she was through perfecting the masterpiece. She told Lekechia that she would take it home and color it in and bring it back for her. Unfortunately though, this promise was never fulfilled, and Lekechia was quite offended.
In December, we had a Secret Santa gift exchange in the call center. I was lucky enough to draw Lora's name, and she also drew mine. But as the gift exchange day drew nearer, Lora was absent from work more and more. It seemed that our little friend was very ill. I got her some butterscotch that she liked so much and made her a bracelet out of Tiger Eye. The day of the exchange came, and Lora was not at work. She did bring up my gift though (she got me a beanie baby and some chocolate candy) and left a note with it. Poor Lora. She had come down with a "Chronic Bacterial Infection" that she just could not shake. Then one tragic day, we found out that Lora would not be working with us anymore because she just could not get over it.
