The Crossings of Colonie is a fantastic park, especially for kids (of all ages). It is situated on 130 acres and features a 3 acre pond as its centerpiece. It also includes aces of meadows, marshy wetlands and woodland all of which are connected by 6 1/2 miles of multiuse paved and stone-dust trails. Check out the park's website for all its other features and information at; CROSSINGS OF COLONIE  .

Starting from  the Arboretum parking lot; Paved trails head off in all directions and if you consult the map, any one of them will get you to the Red Trail. From this parking lot you can take either the Blue or Green trail. If you look at the paved trails, they have colored diamonds painted along them indicating the trail color. The Green Trail mostly travels through open fields. The Blue Trail passes by most of the parks highlights, such as The Lake, The Maze, Playground, The Barn & Meeting House, The Ramble and all the facilities. The Yellow Trail loops around an open field and connects to the Ciccotti Center. The Red Trail passes through a marsh and into the woods where it turns into stone-dust. Choose your trail and you'll eventually connect to the Red Trail which starts from the last parking lot along the park road. The trail takes you over a boardwalk through a marsh and brings you to the Maria Drive parking lot. Pass through the parking lot to the stone-dust trail and head right. Turn left at the T intersection and keep to the main trail. A side trail goes over to the Sand Creek Middle School. You'll come to an open area on your left and a mileage marker on your right that reads 1 1/2. After passing by a small dirt path on your right, you'll come to a wide, sandy path also on your right. Head up this path to a notch at the top where the path then heads back down. From the top of the notch, turn to your left and spot a large Oak tree about 10 feet in the woods. To the right of this Oak will be three-trunked tree with one of the trunks dead. Go to its backside and you'll see a cinderblock on top of some rocks. Remove ONLY this cinderblock to reveal the Crossings of Colonie Letterbox
