                                Completed section; 0.8 miles

Difficulty:              Easy. Paved, flat rail trail.

Directions:

Take exit 89 off of I-395 to Route 14 east into Plainfield. At the junction of Prospect St and Main St continue straight into a parking lot for the trail.

The Moosup Valley State Park Trail is built on part of the abandoned Hartford, Providence & Fishkill Railroad Line, which was completed in 1854 and connected the two state's capitols. The trail travels through Plainfield and Sterling before crossing into RI where it becomes the Trestle Trail, which at present is also undeveloped. See; TRESTLE TRAIL . The Trestle Trail then becomes the Washington Secondary Bike Path which is made up of three interconnecting bike paths; the Coventry Greenway, West Warwick Greenway and Cranston Bike Path. See; WASHINGTON SECONDARY BIKE PATH .For more information visit; EAST COAST GREENWAY .

Starting from the Main Street/Prospect Street parking lot; The trail starts from Route 14, heads alongside the parking lot and crosses an old railroad trestle bridge over the Moosup River. The paved trail travels past a yellow gate and then past a small swamp before coming to Barber Hill Road after 0.8 miles. The paved trail currently ends here. You may continue along the hard packed undeveloped  rail trail, however, it contains a lot of ruts from ATV use.

Note; An alternative route back to the parking lot starts by heading left along Barber Hill Road over the the Moosup River. This brings you up to Route 14 (Main St) where you'll head left (sidewalk available). This route takes you past some old mill buildings and even an old WW II tank located in a memorial park. You'll come back to the parking lot after a 1.9 mile loop.
