Last Updated:        August 30, 2009

Length:                  Trout Brook Trail;   0.8 miles

Difficulty:              Easy. Paved trail.

Directions:

From I-84 take exit 41 to S Main St (Route 173) south. Take a left onto New Britain Ave and then another left onto Quaker Lane. Very quickly you'll come to the entrance for Beachland Park on your left. It's just before the bridge over Trout Brook. I didn't see any type of sign. If you come to Trout Brook Dr on your left, you missed the turn. A parking area is right near the entrance.

The Trout Brook Trail, which parallels the Trout Brook, will eventually link the Elmwood section of town, including the Elmwood Busway Station, with the northern end of town, in the vicinity of the University of Connecticut's West Hartford campus.

Starting from Beachland Park; Head back out the entrance and turn left along the sidewalk crossing over Trout Brook. Use the cross-light to cross Quaker Lane, then head right and back over Trout Brook. You'll pick up the paved trail on your left. The trail travels along the brook. Very scenic, tranquil area. You'll come to the Elmwood Community center Spur Trail after 0.3 miles.

Note; This spur trail brings you to the lower parking lot for the Elmwood Community Center. A pavilion is located here.

The trail then travels along a berm with wood fencing and the river below. The trail currently ends at New Park Ave after a 1/2 mile.

Note; Heading into Beachland Park, if you take your first right you'll pick up another short section of paved trail that travels alongside the brook. The pavement is narrow and only travels for 0.3 miles, ending at Manchester Circle.
