Ally's House- Ally and Bonnie are entering the kitchen.

Ally: It's a stupid DNA test. It means nothing.
Bonnie: The problem is you have now given it meaning.
Ally: (Taking out a bottle of milk from the fridge) I have not.
Bonnie: What if it doesn't confirm u as the biological mother?
Ally: How many times do I have to tell u that it doesn't make a difference.
Bonnie: To you. What about to her? The sole reason she sought u out is because you're her genetic mother. I know u know that. She told u that. She talked about this big hole that she felt. What if you're not her genetic mother? The hole comes back. What if she then goes looking again? And, she will. On some level u have to know that. Which makes me wonder, is the genetic connection important to you?
Ally: (pause) No. And, that's an unfair question.
Bonnie: Maybe so, but, I'm obviously not the only one asking it. (Ally takes a sip of her glass of milk) There's a pretty intuitive 10 year old upstairs whose just been told that DNA matters. Not just to her but to you. And, right or wrong, she thinks that your loving her, your wanting her is conditional.

Ally's House-Maddie's bedroom. Maddie is sitting on her bed listening to music; Ally comes in, shuts off the music and sits on a chair.

Ally: Okay, here's the thing about me. I loved this guy named Billy, and he died. And, then, I loved this guy named Larry even more, and he left. And, one of the reasons why he left me, and well, one of the biggest reasons was his son. And, his need to be in Detroit. And, the truth is I never really got it. The bottom line is the little bastard walked out on me. But, in the last month I can finally say that, ''Okay. I get it.'' I still stick pins in my little Larry doll. But, I - Yea, I get it. (pause) And, I love you, Maddie.
Maddie: If you're so afraid of me leaving, then why would u do the one test that would make me leave?
Ally: Yea. Right. That's the question that Bonnie thought u would be asking.
Maddie: But, for her. (pause) What's the answer? (pause)
Ally: I think that I wanted something to hold in my hand that says, ''You're mine.'' And, that nobody can take u away. I can't lay claim to raising u, Maddie. You showed up when u were 10 years old. I'm not your mother. My claim is genetic. But, I think that the DNA test was because I wanted, you know, a quarantee that you belong to me.

Ally: How do u do that?
Victor: What?
Ally: Care about somebody within minutes of meeting them.
VIctor: It saves time, I guess.

Maddie:
Why are you crying?
Ally: Because you're my daughger.

Ally's House-Ally is sitting on her couch with wine as Victor comes in.

Victor: Hey.
Ally: Hey. (pause) So, the DNA was a match.
Victor:Congratulations. (Victor sits next to Ally)
Ally: Yea. Yea. Well, it doesn't make me a parent, but at least if anybody tries to take her away, I can, you know, have the legal right to make noise. (pause) And, I've been crying my eyes out for the past hour, so if my eyes are red it is not because of the wine. (pause)
Victor: Maddie asleep?
Ally: Uh-yea. Yea. And, Bonnie went back to New York.
Victor sees the ''South Pacific'' sign on the floor and picks it up.
Ally: South Pacific. Maddie found it in the basement. You know, it has that song that you were singing to Helen on it. (pause) Are you okay?
Victor: Ally, I just met her. It's not as if-(pause) I'm fine.
Ally: You know I have the cd. (Gets up to the radio)
Victor: Sorry?
Ally: Mmh.Mmh. To South Pacific. (Puts on the song)
Victor: Listen, I think I'm gonna head out. (Gets up)
Ally: You know, Victor, dance with me. (pause) You had bad news, I had good news, and it should be shared.
Victor: I don't really feel like dancing.
Ally: Oh, I know you don't. But, just shut up, and do it anyway.
                                                 They slow dance.
