P.A.T.S.H.E.L.P. was incorporated in 2002, initially to re-home older cats and dogs with elderly or terminally ill people, with the proviso that the pet returned to the Shelter if the owner was no longer able to care for it.
Due to a growing need in the community for Pet Therapy visits to Nursing Homes, we have extended our services. People who have had pets all their lives miss them dreadfully, when they have to leave their homes. To be able to cuddle a pet makes their lives so much brighter.
The service is sourced from Shelter, where all the animals are assessed for their suitability for this role and then selected and trained. We have a wide variety of dogs, both large and small, and cats and kittens. These animals are experienced Therapy visitors, comfortable in their work, love people, and really look forward to the visits. Even our kittens think they are old-hands!
P.A.T.S.H.E.L.P. is entirely self-funded, relying on volunteers for both fund raising and to run this programme. P.A.T.S.H.E.L.P.INC. is a certified Association under the South Australian Associations Act 1985, registered as a non-profit Organization, and endorsed as a deductible gift recipient with the Australian Taxation Office. This means any donation over two dollars is tax deductible. If you would like to know more or volunteer for P.A.T.S.H.E.L.P. talk to Sue.
