What is this, you may ask? Just another example of Diana’s brilliant photography? A testament to the superiority of the RAZR cellphone camera? Yes, all that…and the outline of James Taylor from our 3rd row, center seats at the Warner Theater last night. The tickets were all sold out at the box office the first day they went on sale, so instead of continuing to kick myself for waiting a day (the bruises are still there) I just figured I should go stand out in front of the theater on the night of the performance and see if someone was selling tickets. Sure enough, I got a pair of tickets for their face price (the people next to us bought theirs on e-bay for a lot more!) and enjoyed one of the best concerts we have been to in a long time. (We were close enough to see the color of his eyes, which I can confidently report are blue.) The last time I saw JT live in concert was somewhere north of 20 years ago when I visited my brother at SUNY-Oswego (help me here with the date, Steve!). JT’s voice isn’t quite the same, but I did get to shake his hand and hear the explanations behind all his wonderful songs. (Sweet Baby James, for instance, is his nephew, named after him.) And wouldn’t you know it, in a theater that holds 1800 in a metropolitan area of over 5 million, I ran into my cousin Betty (Schuchat) MacDonald! The last finale? My favorite, one I played on my guitar all the time at the end of NFTY conclaves: “You Can Close Your Eyes”.
