Peniel Haitian Baptist Church |
Our
Church History
In
may of 1983, a group of Haitian Christians got together for the first time in
assembly to found what used to be Maranatha Baptist Church. In 1987, while the
church was growing both qualitatively and quantitatively, it found itself in the
need of a new pastor. Meanwhile, a triumvirate composed of Serge Louis-Jeune,
Derival Bertrand, and Sergot Vertus was heading it. It was under its
administration that we’ve acquired the name of Union Baptist Church. During that
period, many have abandoned us to go elsewhere. Only twenty (20) of us remained
confident that the Lord would answer us imminently.
In fact, in May of 1988, the prayer of the saints ascended and the grace of the
Lord descended upon the church. Hallelujah! The Rev. Pierre Agneau George was
sent to take over. The subject of a name change resurfaced and we voted anew for
the present name Peniel Haitian Baptist Church. In 1989, we affiliated
with the Southern Baptist Mission. We were persevering vehemently, and the Lord
made us know a very rapid growth, which brought our number to one hundred
seventy five (175) members only in December of 1990. We found ourselves in the
necessity of a new place. Praise the Lord! He immediately made it possible for
us to buy the building where we’ve been serving the Lord ever
since.
For the past eleven (11) years, under the leadership of our pastor, the church
has known many blessings, and the growth is rather constant. We only expect the
best. May the name of Lord be blessed always.
