How the H.A.I.T.♥I. Group got started
Born of the prayers of Crystal Miel, the H.A.I.T.♥I. Group met for the first time at the home of Jim & Crystal Miel in Kendallville Saturday evening, July 27th, 2002.
From the time the Miels submitted their adoption application in April 2001, Crystal began praying that there would be other families, also adopting from Haiti, in the heart of Indiana with whom to share the joys of adopting. In February 2002, Crystal met Angie Macomber through the Haitian Angels online discussion group. Crystal and Angie began corresponding via e-mail and met in person for the first time in June at an international adoption picnic. Shortly thereafter, Angie and her husband Phil learned that there would be another couple, also adopting from Haiti, who were scheduled to begin prospective adoptive parenting classes at their adoption agency the same time they were. So the three Haitian adoption couples made plans to get together following the July parenting class. Crystal spoke for all in attendance saying, "God answers prayers! It is an amazing thing to see God work like this. I can't wait until all of our children are home and here with us at these meetings!!"
The group enjoyed a carry-in dinner (featuring Jim's delicious tacos!) and had fun getting to know one another. They didn't leave before making plans for the next get-together. "We’re hoping to have one, if not two, more families join us for our second gathering," Angie adds. "Once word gets out about our group, we hope others will be interested in participating."
