Port-au-Prince, March, 1999

Dear friends,

Warm greetings from Haiti! We hope this letter finds you well and that the spring is setting in.

Here are some news from Haiti. From January 27 to February 10, we had an evangelism team from Ville Lasalle, in Montreal. Dr. Jalbert from Edmundston came with them. We did some evangelism in the Port-au-Prince’s streets and the dentist held a clinic in different churches. The team members were surprised to see how many people they were able to lead to the Lord. In one morning, one of the team members brought 23 people to the gospel. The dentist pulled out hundreds of teeth.

We also held a three day youth camp in our yard. On Sunday, the last day of the camp, there were 350 young people and we distributed 700 brand-new pieces of clothes that were donated by a Canadian organization. To give Bible teachings and to feed 350 kids is not easy. Most of them are from very poor families where the single mothers are the breadwinners. We are very excited to see what the Lord is doing. Three and a half months ago, we started with 30 young people and now there are 300. Unfortunately, the size of our yard will limit the growth. We hope soon to purchase land and to build a church.

From February 19 to March 1, Michel gave a course entitled “Introduction to Missions” at the Bible College in Montreal. He returned home refreshed both by the cold weather in Quebec and by his expericence.

We received an American medical team for one evening. We put aside about ten children for them to examinate, but 100 came to our gate. Unfortunatly they could not treat them all. Many suffered of boils, ringworms and open sores due to malnutrition. It shows us how great the need is.

In our last newsletter, we spoke about Sandra (6 or 7), our little neighbour who was abandoned in the street by her mother at the age of three. Our neighbours took her in and used her as a maid. Sandra was often up at 5:00 in the morning doing house work. She was mistreated. Two months ago, she ran away from home for the third time and nobody has seen her since. Would you please pray for God’s protection upon her and that she meets some christians where she is?

We want to thank you for your financial support and your prayers. May God richly bless you as you labor for him.
