Confession

Oops, I did it again!

Does this sound familiar in your life?  Do you know what to do?

Scriptures                                                                                Application

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 1:7

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace…

Ephesians 5:5

For of this you can be sure:  No immoral, impure or greedy person – such a man is an idolator – has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Proverbs 18:9

If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable.

Ephesians 5:1-21

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.  Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.  For of this you can be sure:  No immoral, impure or greedy person – such a man is an idolator – has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.  Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.  Therefore do not be partners with them.

For you were once darkness, but now you are in the light of the Lord.  Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.  Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.  For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.  But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for it is light that makes everything visible.  This is why it is said:

“Wake up, O sleeper,

rise from the dead,

and Christ will shine on you.”

Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, but because the days are evil.  There do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.  Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.  Instead, be filled with the Spirit.  Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.  Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Prayer of Confession

(Taken from Bill Hybel’s Too Busy Not to Pray)

I confess that …

I need Your forgiveness for the sin of …

Please give me your strength…

To forsake that sin.

To make restitution by…

To accept your forgiveness and the new life you give me!

<--Luke 6:41,42

Luke 17:4

Jesus said to His disciples:  “Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come.  It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to ca use one of these little ones to sin.  So watch yourselves.

“If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.  If he sins against you seven times in a day and seven times comes back to you and says, “I repent,” forgive him.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

John 15:7

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.

Proverbs 15:29

The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

John 9:31

We know that God does not listen to sinners.  He listens to the godly man who does His will.

You are a new creation!
