HONDURAS, C.A.

In the fall of 2002, SHOALS ventured waaaay South of the Border into Honduras, Central America. For two months, we were based in the city of La Ceiba in order to survey the reefs near the Nicaraguan Rise. The capital, Tegucigalapa, is located on the Pacific coast. Other popular places are Roatan (for diving), San Pedro Sula (shopping), and La Moskitia "The Mosquito Coast" (for the eco-adventurous). The country is still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Mitch in 1998, but the locals are friendly and always willing to help, especially when there's a few Lempera involved (keep in mind $1 = L15.9, so the dollar goes a long way there!).
