Liz Phair Guitar Tab: Slave

Capo the 2nd fret. Liz's guitar was tuned up a full step for the solo electric tour. folderol and is on the right track with the first two chords. (I think the Girly Sound version is capoed at the 5th fret)

First chord
7 9 8 0 x x
7 9 9 0 x x
(Repeat quickly)

Second chord
0 7 9 9 x x
0 7 9 8 x x
(Repeat quickly)
That's all I know.

Yes, this is correct. Played through it several times just now. That's the first minute and 7 seconds of the track, at least with respect to this Shank Hall performance, to which I'll refer -- and invite everyone else to do the same -- for the rest of this attempt to complete the tab.

The next chords are:

(1:08 -- 1:23)
"Sometimes a dream is what makes you a"
7 9 9 8 0 0

"slave....."
0 7 9 9 9 x
[or maybe:
7 7 9 9 9 x ]

Then the first two chords are repeated through the 2nd verse, from 1:23 -- 2:11 ("and I think that's what's happened..." ---> "... to know that I'm better...")

(2:11 -- 2:15)
"Sometimes"
0 7 9 9 0 x
0 7 9 9 8 x

(2:15 -- 2:18)
"a dre-..."
7 9 9 8 0 0

(2:18 -- 2:22)
"-eam.... "
2 4 4 3 0 0

0 7 9 9 0 x

0 7 9 9 8 x
"....is what"

(2:24 -- 2:26)
"makes you a sla--"
7 9 9 8 0 0

(2:26 -- 2:29)
2 4 4 3 0 0
"--ave...."

(2:30 -- 2:36)

7 9 9 8 0 0

2 4 4 3 0 0

7 9 9 8 0 0

2 4 4 3 0 0

(2:37 -- 2: 42)

2 2 4 4 4 x

0 2 2 1 0 0

^^^

[Incidentally the above sequence of chords is what I referred to as "the single greatest kick-ass guitar moment" of any of her songs in my previous post. Looking at it tabbed out here (hopefully accurately), it doesn't seem all that mysterious, but you have to admit it kicks ass. I guess I'll just call it alchemy.]

(2:42 -- 2:58)
"....dream.... is what makes you a slave....."

7 9 9 8 0 0

7 7 9 9 9 x

[Repeat once, through 2:58]

The outro consists of A-shape barre chords being slid up the fretboard, "Stratford"-style, with the second chord of each slide being the 7th position "E" [7 7 9 9 9 x], starting with a slide from "D" to "E" at 2:58:

5 5 7 7 7 x / 7 7 9 9 9 x

followed by a slide from "C" to "E" at 3:00:

3 3 5 5 5 x / 7 7 9 9 9 x

and then "A" to "E"

0 0 2 2 2 x / 7 7 9 9 9 x

This pattern repeats pretty much in this order through the end of the song.
