Replying & Critiques
Replying: What to Do
- Say what you thought, and explain why. It doesn't have to be terribly complex, but be as specific as you can.
- If you thought something was wrong, that's okay! Explain what it is, nicely, and if you can, please suggest how it can be fixed. This goes for both grammar points and more vague things like plotting. (Example: "The second scene seemed too long; they should have gone into the fight scene sooner. Cut the big discussion at the end of that scene, and it would help a lot.")
Replying: What Not to Do
- Don't flame or just post "THIS SUX AND SO DO U!!!!!1" That doesn't do anyone any good. Practice common courtesy. If you don't like it, either keep quiet or post a way to help improve the writing (see above).
- Don't post just to raise your post count (formerly "HP".) Some people post "Good!" in every thread just to get more posts. This wastes space and time, and doesn't help the writers much because it's not very specific. Too much of this will get you reported to the admins for spamming.
- Don't bash a fic just because it's not the style you like, or you think Character A and Character B don't really belong together, or whatever. Everyone has different tastes, and if you don't care for a certain kind of fanfic, then don't read them or reply to them.
Thanks to Maese Davas for the point about post-count replies.
