Flood Claims 38 People in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA (Nov. 8) XINHUA - Thirty-eight people have been killed and 1,300 others left homeless since October 20 when the Wabe Shebelle River at Mustahil locality of Ethiopia's eastern Somali region was flooded.

A team led by Mohammed Mealin Alihead, head of the Somali region, visited the flooded area and met with the Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Joint Committee of the area, the Ethiopian News Agency reported today.

The overflowing river also flooded Mustahil Town and demolished about 360 dwelling units, noted the report, adding that flood victims being settled at three mountainous areas, are exposed to malaria and waterborne diseases. ________________
