UNHCR Donates 500 tents to Flood Affected Peoplein Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA (Nov. 11) XINHUA - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said it has donated some 500 tents for use by the flood affected persons in Dollo Area in Ethiopia's Somali Region.

A press release issued here today by the UNHCR said these tents were immediately distributed among individuals residing in Dollo-Odo, Dollo-Bay and Suftu, who lost their houses as a result of the flood.

UNHCR has been providing supplementary feeding to some 1,650 vulnerable refugees, including children, pregnant and lactating women and the needy sick and elderly in three feeding sites at Dollo-Odo, Suftu and Dollo-Bay since June this year, the release said.

According to the release, the UNHCR has also donated essential drugs to the local clinic for use by the refugees and the local population.

The local population in and around Dollo in southern Ethiopia have been seriously affected by erratic rains that caused the overflowing of surrounding rivers, thus damaging their houses, livestock and other property, the release explained.

There are an estimated 8,000 refugees of Somali origin residing in Dollo Area, southern Ethiopia, receiving UNHCR protection, the release added.
