Charter:
The Lower Herbert-Halifax Lions Club was chartered in 1963 under the sponsorship of the Ingham Lions Club. Membership hovers around the mid thirties, of whom one is an original charter member and another two members joined shortly after charter.
Lower-Herbert Halifax Lions Club undertakes the normal range of fund-raising and community assistance activities, and these are illustrated on the Current and Past Projects pages.
Pensioner Units:
Almost unique to this club, is the Pensioner units facility situated at Halifax. The units are all self-contained, motel-type, one bedroom, with separate lounge and kitchen facilities. Most of these units have been financed from a combination of club funds, government grants, and community help.
The first four units were built in 1981 by day labour with club assistance. The second block of four units was constructed in 1985 by contract as were the next six units in 1987. The next two were constructed in 1989, which included a Club meeting room and storage facility. The last two units were constructed in April 1996.
ANZAC Day Parade:
Our Lions Club members support the Anzac Parade each year at Halifax. Members march proudly behind their Lions banner.
Ingham Show:
At the annual Ingham Show, our club runs a lucky number stall. This stall is operated from late Friday morning to Friday night, and then again on Saturday from early morning to early afternoon.
Stinger Warnings / First Aid:
Marine stingers are a hazard to ocean bathers from November to March. The Lower Herbert-Halifax Lions Club has erected warning signs for the council, and maintains supplies of vinegar for sting neutralisation at a number of sites in the Lower Herbert.
Clean-Up Australia Day:
Our club members volunteer to clean up our part of Australia. We like to see Lower-Herbert Halifax looking as natural and as beautiful as it truly is. This is our part in helping to maintain its beauty.
Sporting Bodies:
Excellence in sport is encouraged by the Lower Herbert-Halifax Club. Each year our club presents a number of blazers and trophies to individuals covering a variety of sports including football, shooting and lawn bowls.
Lions Youth of the Year:
Ingham district youth take advantage of this opportunity for public speaking each year. The three district Lions clubs rotate the task of hosting this function each year. In 2001 our club had the pleasant task of carrying out this truly magnificent project.
