 Books

The Inner Game of Soccer, by Eric Sellin.  The author discusses the laws of the game in detail and the proper application of the laws to manage the game successfully.  The reader should be aware that the book was written in the mid 1970’s and therefore some of the details of the laws have changed.

The Soccer Referee’s Manual, by David Ager.  Each law is discussed in turn in this book which is at a level quite suitable for beginning referees but is a good review for more experienced officials.  Questions and answers throughout the book add to its usefulness.

For The Good of The Game, by Robert Evans and Edward Bellion, 2000.  Both authors write from a deep well of experience as FIFA referees, and the book contains interesting anecdotes of the authors’ personal dealings with well known world class players.  More important, though, are the themes and valuable comments that permeate throughout.  This is a must read, particularly for more experienced referees.

The Man in The Middle, by David Elleray, 2004.  This is an autobiography of an English official who was considered one of the top 4 officials in the world and worked in England and Europe extensively at the highest professional levels of soccer.  It tells a story in an interesting and clear manner about the dedication, commitment, and sacrifices that are necessary to reach the pinnacle of success.
