Mentoring

The 2008 Mentor Program consists of three components.

1. Experienced referees will act as mentors for first year, District referees.  Early in the season mentors will be assigned as AR's of games to which the first year referees are assigned to the middles.  Referees are encouraged to ask any questions of their mentor they may have before, at the half, or after the match.  Mentors will e-mail their mentoree's strong points, and recommendations for improvement to them following each game.  Mentorees are also encouraged to contact any of the HDSRA mentors if they have any questions.
Later in the summer mentorees may be assigned to middles where a mentor will observe and provide feedback verbally and by e-mail.

2. District referees with 1 or more years of experience will be evaluated by HDSRA Assessors, or experienced mentors.  Assessors/mentors will e-mail a report on strong points, and recommendations for improvement to each official following each game.   Assessors/mentors will also be acting as AR's while they are carrying out the assessment.  We do not have the resources to evaluate every official but our goal is to complete a minimum of 30 assessments in 2008.

3. We will be carrying out more formal assessments on referees who have been identified as candidates for promotion to Regional referees in the next year or two.  One of the HDSRA assessors will be assigned to watch an identified Regional candidate in an appropriately challenging game and provide that official with a detailed written assessment.  The assessment result will determine to a large degree whether or not the official will be recommended to the Soccer Nova Scotia Referee Development Committee to attend a Regional Referee course.

If you feel that you are ready to be assessed for promotion purposes, and have not yet been notified that you will be evaluated for that purpose, call Dave Horne (445-4732) and let him know of your desire for reclassification.
