REPORT:-

Following our short lived Scottish cup campaign we returned this afternoon to the vigours of league football with an away trip to Balgownie where we faced F.C.Donview. With the Scotland Holland match being played this afternoon an early k.o. had been arranged however this brought its own problems with some players struggling to arrive on time. As it was we only had the bare eleven with some stuck at work, some on holiday and more disappointingly some watching Scotland. The highlight of todays match was undoubtablely the return of rockhard full back Mark Wood. Wood was on the team sheet for the first time in over two years following a horrendous triple break of his right leg. Since then he has been working in Singapore and has not had the opportunity to resurrect his footballing career. He tentatively made his way out onto the park to join a defence of Marlow, Michie and Fulton. Andrews was in goal and midfield was made up of N.Milne, E.Milne, C.Robertson and England. Up front Westland joined forces with M.Woods. Unfortunately our subs bench was completely empty. With only two minutes on the clock Michie took a quick free kick wide to Wood, the full back swung over a teasing ball to instantly play himself into the game and gain the confidence he required. Donview then attacked down their right, Marlow getting up well to head back into Andrews arms. In 15 mins. however the sweeper could not reach another right sided cross which landed 10 yards from our line. N.Milne had tracked back with his man and did get in a challenge however he could not clear the danger and Andrews goal was breached, 1-0. In 20 mins. we were level as Westland opened his account for Halliburton. Marlow nodded back to Andrews who launched a long ball forward. Westland latched on to it and sent in a cracker which went searing into the net off the underside of the bar. We then went on the offensive with a number of teasing balls being sent into the danger area. We took the lead in 25mins. M.Woods who has been, in the past few matches, causing trouble for opposition defences with some great crosses went one better this afternoon when he scored direct from a corner kick. It went in off the bewildered keepers foot. In 35 mins. we surrendered our lead. Donview won a corner out on their right which was swung across. Fulton was well placed to get on the end of it and moved away from our area. His touch was however far too heavy allowing a Donview midfielder to challenge on the edge of our 18 yard line. It would be fair to say that the challenger had no intention of shooting instead concentrating on putting in a solid challenge, unfortunately for us the ball flew forward and tore into Andrews net to level the proceedings. For a period now we looked vulnerable as Donview pressed forward. Their pressure paid off when a direct approach worked for them. A long ball down the middle should have been cleared by Marlow who tried to volley a clearance instead of heading away. The ball was nicked off him and the attacker went on into the box before striking a low shot into the net. Andrews was unfortunate here as he appeared to have it covered only for the ball to take a wicked bonce over his out stretched arm. (H.T.3-2) C.Robertson was enjoying his role in midfield allowing him the opportunity to get forward, he broke free in 55mins. but fired wide. From a deep England free kick E.Milne got up well to head goalwards, he did not get much power on it but the keeper made a meal of it and scrambled it away for a corner. N.Milne linked well with Westland, who was putting in a power of work up front, as we won a corner, the kick being wasted on this occasion. On the hour mark Wood bulldozed into a challenge to win the ball in a 50-50 confrontation, providing us all and more importantly himself, with the proof that he was well and truly back! Seconds later he stormed into another meaty exchange before feeding a ball up the right wing. Donview then broke up their left with Wood for once caught out as he began to tire. The winger crossed well but England was equal to the cross and cleverly headed over from right under the crossbar. Michie was then dumped on his arse after escorting a ball out for a goal kick prior to us getting the equaliser. C.Robertson found himself racing in on goal pursued by a posse of defenders. He kept his cool to slot the ball under the advancing keeper. We now had to focus both on keeping it tight at the back and on trying to grab the winner. In 85 mins. Marlow found himself out of position when he moved forward for a corner. The ball was quickly cleared and the veteran made up the entire length of the park getting into his own 6 yard box to clear off the line after Andrews had been beaten. Moments later and with time running out Marlow picked up a loose ball before sending M.Woods clear on the left. He moved in on goal but sadly lacked C.Robertsons composure and missed what would have undoubtedly been the match winner. (F.T.3-3). Excellent second half saw us all keep at the task of clawing back the result. Poor goals lost cost us 2 points. 10 points from 10 games must be improved. Hallitiopman must be given to Mark Wood.
