REPORT:-

A New Year but unfortunately the same old problems! A distinct lack of bodies available for selection. Fulton, Andrews, England and both Woods were missing as we kicked off 2004 with Michie in goal, Wood, Marlow, C.Robertson and Sim in defence, Keith, S.Robertson, Morgan and N.Milne in midfield behind strikers Westland and E.Milne. The match was scheduled to start at 1.15 but Mr. Anderson strolled onto the park just before 1.30! Glendale Youth today's Dickie Trophy opponents are currently bottom of Div. 2 North and featuring in their line up today were Nick Wood and Bryan Merchant both of whom had jumped from the Halli ship in the close season. Right from the start Halli looked to be on top, that said no one was putting a foot on the ball and our play tended to break down due to wayward passes. Slowly we improved and took the lead in 20 mins a great corner in from Keith was met by the soaring E.Milne and his header bulleted into the net. Glendale broke free in our box but Sim was alert and made a good challenge on the 6 yard line. Marlow was upended out wide but had to look lively soon after when clearing after Michie had been surprised by a cruel bounce. In 35 Glendale levelled and of course the script had already been written it was Merchant who fired in the equaliser. Morgan had failed to get distance on a header and the red head hit a good volley past Michie. C.Robertson was very unlucky when he went on a strong run prior to linking well with Keith. The skipper neatly back heeled a return pass into the path of the centre back who had a low drive blocked by the keeper. E.Milne then had an effort blocked as we pushed to regain the lead. (H.T.1-1). Mid way through the first period S.Robertson and E.Milne had been swapped and we retained that positioning for the entire second half. C.Robertson slid into to make a superb challenge on the edge of our box minutes before E.Milne forced the Glendale keeper into a good stop with a near post header. In 55 we got the break through we were after and it came when Keith and E.Milne produced a carbon copy of the opening goal. We were now well on top with S.Robertson showing up well, he was holding up the ball and generally urging on his younger team mates. The two Marks combined to produce a moment of magic when Wood rolled a pass back towards Michie. Unfortunately the keeper had not read the script and was miles off his line. He only just managed to scramble back and clear off the line. We were looking very comfortable and with only 5 mins remaining Anderson replaced Westland. The sub was instantly into the action and spread a couple of telling passes. We scored in 88 and it must be a contender for goal of the season. 7 or 8 passes were strung together culminating in S.Robertson rolling the ball across to Anderson. He calmly first timed a stroked shot into the far corner. With time now apparently standing still Wood won a great challenge out right to release Anderson he sent a cross field pass to S.Robertson who returned the compliment to find Anderson. His shot was brilliantly saved by the keeper. Michie then headed one off the line!! Then in 97 mins Marlow challenging his man for a cross headed into his own net! (F.T.3-2). Good result, where did all the extra time come from? 3 great goals won us the tie. S.Robertson pips his brother for Hallitopman award today.
