REPORT:-

Today's game saw the mighty Halliburton travel to Westhill to play our division leaders Cults. Our hosts were trying to continue their 100% record where as Halliburton were trying to build on our last hard fought victory against Ellon. The omens were not good as just before kick-off we still only had 10 men, but with perfect timing Gary Anderson and Bob England arrived. The team started with Andrews in goal and a back four of N.Milne, Anderson, Michie and Stubbs. Midfield was Sim, Keith, E.Milne and M.Woods. Up front were G.Woods and Graham. England was our only sub. The game started on the huge Lawsondale pitch with a strong blustery wind affecting play. Halliburton were holding their own in difficult conditions against a young and fast Cults team but on 20 mins we fell behind. From a corner a Cults forward was left unmarked 10 yards out and given a free header. Although he managed to head the ball into the ground 2 yards in front of him it bounced up off the bone-hard pitch and looped into the corner. On the 30 min mark Cults were reduced to 10 men when one of their players wouldn’t shut up despite being booked for dissent so off he went. Just before half time we were level after some good work from G.Woods. He squared the ball across the box for Graham to finish and gave us just rewards for our efforts. (H.T.1-1) The game restarted and within 5 mins disaster struck. A cross played into our 6 yard box could have been cleared by a couple of defenders but everyone left it after Anderson called for it. He then proceeded to leave the cross to go out for a goal kick but was unaware that a Cults forward was behind him and had the simple task of tapping it in. Although Halliburton huffed and puffed we failed to threaten the Cults goal unless you count a G.Woods attempt from the half way line which only threatened the Cults sideline !! Andrews in goal kept us in the game with a couple of goods saves but on the 70 min mark he was given no chance after a debatable offside. A Cults whippet streaked through and calmly slotted it away. Another goal towards the end finished things off for Cults and that was that for Halliburton. (F.T. 4-1).

Game of two halves for us with all the hard work done in the first half gone to waste. A neutral watching the 2nd half may have thought Halliburton had the 10 men not the other way round. J.Ritchie's Hallitopman Paul Andrews.
