REPORT:-
Craig
Robertson and Stuart Marlow both returned this afternoon to bolster a defence
that leaked 4 goals in Hallis last match. Graham Murdoch came in for his first
match of the season and started in an unaccustomed midfield role. The line up
was Andrews, Sim, Marlow, Robertson and Michie. N.Milne, E.Milne, Murdoch and
England. Anderson and Graham. Subs were Stubbs and Tennant. As play commenced a
large crowd was gathered on the side, with most of this crowd under 12s Dons
hopefuls being coached by Chic McClelland. It was a fantastic opportunity for
tomorrows stars to witness how the beautiful game should be played…they left
after 5 minutes!!! The match was played in the main in the middle of the park
with no questions being asked of either keeper. Haylofts front line was lead by
a nippy centre who kept Robertson busy. Michie got up well to head clear then
Marlow forced himself into a good challenge out right to redeem himself after a
poor pass. Sim was showing a good touch in defence but reminded himself..and the
rest of us that he has not yet reached international standards as he fresh aired
an attempted clearance! We went in front in 30 mins through an unlikely source.
N.Milne the man to get onto the ball after a mellee to coolly chip/lob the
keeper. Graham should have put us two up soon after but inexcusably missed from
3 yards. We got a 2nd right on the break when a driven cross from Graham was
turned into his own net by an unfortunate defender. (H.T.2-0). We now had to
pressure the visitors defence and keep the ball in their half, as it was
expected that their 10 man team would begin to tire. We did take the game to
them and produced ample opportunities to win the match out of sight. Michie put
us in trouble when he tried to waltz the ball out of defence but the parting
shot flew wide. N.Milne had obviously not learned from that and proceeded to do
exactly the same moments later only this time a great shot flew into Andrews
net. This gift gave Hayloft a lift and 5 mins later Marlow had to make a last
ditch blocking tackle inside the six yard line to deny the visitors an
equaliser. We then went onto conjure up 4 good chances without taking advantage.
Anderson had a couple, E.Milne one and miss of the bunch fell to Graham who
fired over the top of an open goal. Eventually we grabbed the killer goal.
Andrews sent out a good ball to find Anderson, He in turn sent in a lovely cross
which picked out E.Milne. This time the ball was melted into the net to secure
the points. (F.T.3-1). A reasonable result albeit against 10 men for the
duration. Lucky charm Marlow has now played in 5 games..won 3..drawn 2! Good
display this afternoon from Sim but outstanding performance from Topman Ewen
Milne.
