REPORT:-

After cancellation last week our 3rd round Scottish Cup tie was given the green light and our opponents Kirkland FC left from Methil in Fife at 9a.m. The fifers had a large support up with them and around 25 fans were gathered round the park as the game got underway. Halli lined up with Andrews in goal, N.Milne, Shaw, Robertson and Michie in defence, Keith, Longmuir, E.Milne and M.Woods in the middle and G.Woods alongside N.Wood in attack. Our subs were Sim, Fulton, Graham, England and Marlow. Kirkland had a blend of youth and experience in their ranks and were well marshalled at the back by their giant centre half. The match got off to a pretty even start with most of the play being confined to the middle of the park. Neither keeper was called into any serious action throughout the entire half, Hallis only effort on goal was a long range shot from M.Woods, which the keeper dealt with at the second attempt. We had another good opportunity to score when a cross in from the left saw G.Woods steaming in to head only for E.Milne to nick it off his head and the chance was gone. (HT. 0-0) Kirkland got off to a flier when they went in front after only 6 minutes of the second half. N.Milne let his man drift away and the winger picked up to move forward and drill easily into the net. Halli were stunned but battled back into it. We levelled things on the hour, a corner in from the right was controlled by G.Woods, he turned to shoot and the shot went into the net off E.Milne, who in fairness knew very little about it. Andrews pulled off a great stop low to his left to keep the score level then moments later a neat through ball from Longmuir sent G.Woods away, he did well to go past his man and round the keeper, unfortunately just a little wide and his angled shot hit the side net. Andrews again came to the rescue to keep us in it with another save when he smothered a low shot then Kirkland went back in front. An excellent strike albeit from an unmarked player. G.Woods should have got us back on terms when he weakly headed straight at the keeper from 6 yards. Halli were scrapping for everything and creating a number of half chances. Longmuir moved up the right but his low cross was driven clear. We won a couple of free kicks but both were sent in too close to the keeper. With 10 mins remaining a catalogue of errors combined to gift Kirkland a 3rd. Andrews sent a poor goal kick out and Michie was unsure of his pass back to either Andrews or Robertson, as it was Robertson took it, but at pace and his touch took it away from him. The ball was sent into our box and Michie clumsily pulled down his man to concede a penalty which was duly deposited into the net. Right on time the visitors stole a fourth, a cross from the right was watched by our defence and a goal was scored from a suspiciously looking offside position. Fulton on for Michie got in a shot as time ran out (F.T 1-4) The final score flattered the fifers. A disappointing end to the game. Topman Andrews kept us in it until 80mins.
