REPORT:-
Following
a weekend off last week because of snow Halliburton returned to action in a home
league encounter against Newmachar United. A spate of call offs left our squad
down to the bare bones and an sos was sent out to veteran Gary Anderson. He
answered the call and arrived just in time to take his place in the centre of
midfield. We lined up Michie, Sim, Shaw, Robertson, N.Milne, Keith, Anderson,
Fulton, N.Wood, G.Woods and Merchant. Our one sub was Marlow. We had done very
well in our last two matches and so it was disappointing that so many changes
had to be made. Still it is eleven v eleven and we had to pull the sleeves up
and battle for a third consecutive victory. Utd started the stronger but slowly
we came into it. Anderson was showing up well at this point but in general we
could not put any pressure on the visitors goalkeeper. Utd went in front in 20
when we allowed a low driven corner to scream across the six yard box to be met
by an attacker who knocked it past Michie who had little chance. In 35 mins we
produced what was to be out first and last scoring opportunity of the match. A
cross into the middle was well met by G.Woods. His looping header seemed to be
on its way in but a defender got back to hook it off the line. We were all huff
and puff with little or no penetration. (H.T.0-1) Utd were to dominate this half
and posted their intentions early on when initially Robertson missed the ball
allowing his man to then ghost past N.Milne, Shaw and the despairing Robertson
with ease. On this occasion it came to nothing however soon after Sim put us in
trouble when he freshaired an attempted clearance. His winger got onto it and
with Michie not helping matters by being in no mans land the visitors lobbed in
their second. Sim was skinned again in 70 mins when his man left him for dead
before burying a low shot past Michie who was unlucky after getting a hand to
it. G.Woods was by now the only Halliman that looked likely to be of any danger
and he was all over the place. A 4th was scored when we were ripped
to bits again and Michie was given little hope with another low drive. Marlow
replaced Sim for the closing stages, which by now had become Newmachar versus
Graeme Woods. He was everywhere and played a one two with Marlow, a one two with
Keith, sent Merchant clear then amazingly got onto the end of the cross ball to
see his shot blocked! N.Milne broke away to send in a shot but the game ran out
with us well beaten.(F.T.0-4) Only the second time this season that we have
failed to score. A pretty poor performance all round apart from the impressive
G.Woods. Hard to miss at least 4 keymen today.
