REPORT:-
Skipper
Jason Keith and fellow midfielder Gary Longmuir were both unavailable for this
afternoons clash with local rivals Ferryhill. This of course meant that changes
had to be made to the starting eleven that had secured such a comfortable
victory last time out. We lined up with Andrews in goal, Fulton, Shaw, Robertson
and N.Milne in defence. The midfield was formed by N.Wood, E.Milne, Morgan and
M.Woods with G.Woods and Graham linked up front. Our subs were the experienced
Michie and Marlow, alongside the youthful Sim and Merchant. A bright afternoon
coupled with a stiff breeze made life a little difficult for our back four. The
entire first half was played without too many scoring opportunities being
created by either side and Halliburton failed to come anywhere near the level of
performance produced against Bankhead. One near thing occurred mid way through
the half when E.Milne struck the wood work then to balance it up Andrews had to
look sharp when turning a free kick over the top. (H.T.0-0) The second half was
to be become a much more strongly contested affair with a number of wayward
challenges flying around. Morgan was pulled up for a meaty exchange wide left
and Ferryhill were also taken to task on a number of occasions by the referee.
We grabbed the lead in 70 mins after typical never say die play from N.Wood. The
Ferryhill keeper played a short ball out to his chunky sweeper who took an
eternity to control and decide what to do with the ball. Meanwhile Wood was
closing him down from distance but in truth should never have been able to win
the ball. Credit to the Halliman for his tenacity as he robbed the defender drew
the advancing keeper and slotted the ball into the net. We now felt that if we
could go on and score again then the game would be over, however we could not
find the net again. We defended well enough Fulton was being given a torrid time
by an experienced forward but did well to get back to clear in 75. Robertson and
Shaw were looking comfortable through the middle and N.Milne was matching his
man. His brother E.Milne then became embroiled in a niggle with his midfield
opponent. We continued to look comfortable but without ever threatening the
Ferryhill goal again. (F.T. 1-0). A good result against a stuffy side. No
question that had we scored a second then we would have cruised to victory. The
Hallitopman award this afternoon goes to Nic Wood , good display.
