REPORT:-

Our first night game of 2003 and we all knew that a vast improvement on Saturdays performance would be required if we were to gleam anything from tonight's match. We had travelled up Deeside to meet Feughside at Finzean with a depleted squad. Michie, M.Woods and Wood were all missing from Saturdays squad. Add to that the injured Fulton and it was obvious that we were stretched. However Keith returned and England was a late call on to ensure we had a 13 strong group to select from. Manager Marlow included himself in the team and moved G.Woods back into a central midfield role as we lined up, Andrews, N.Milne, Marlow, Robertson, Shaw, Keith, G.Woods, E.Milne, Morgan, Graham and Merchant. In reserve we had Sim and England. We faced a strong sun as play got underway. The home side moved forward from the off but Marlow picked up and released Morgan wide on the left, his forward ball found Merchant who lost possession too easily. Play was quite even although we never really tested the home keeper. Feughside went in front in 25 mins when a cut back was well struck past Andrews. The keeper soon after this rushed out of his box and as the rest of us stood aghast at this most unusual occurrence he beat one man before clearing up the right. We levelled in 42 when Robertson did well to drive through the middle before sending home an off balance shot. We then sold a terrible goal at a terrible time, 45mins. N.Milne was no where to be seen as a ball was threaded out to the left, Robertson tried but failed to close the winger down and Marlow was far too easily beaten in the air.(H.T.2-1) At this point we were still in the match but if truth be told Halli went on to produce a shocker of a half with an inept performance throughout the side. Our passing was dreadful and our shape was all over the place. Only a low Morgan cross missed by E.Milne threatened their goal. Feughside went on to go nap as we lay down and rolled over. Every one of their goals in some way were assisted by us. Either giving the ball away or failing to get in a challenge. That may be harsh on the defence but we were shocking. That said not once did we hold the ball either in the middle or up front which meant we were on the back foot for the entire second half. Andrews did produce one good stop which amounted more to self preservation than anything else, as a pile driver was rocketing towards his face he punched it away! (F.T 5-1) We got well turned over due to a poor display all round, not one player produced it tonight, some tried a little bit harder than others but the only player who never put a foot wrong was our unused substitute Bob England he deserves topman for having to watch!
